No. 615 74R10218 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 the members of the Highlands High School Mock Trial Team, who will 1-3 visit the State Capitol on April 17, 1995; and 1-4 WHEREAS, These talented young Texans have devoted countless 1-5 hours after school and on weekends and holidays to learn about 1-6 court procedure, Texas law, and techniques of rhetoric and debate; 1-7 their determination and hard work paid off handsomely this 1-8 February, when this outstanding team placed third in its region at 1-9 the Mock Trial Competition, a prestigious event conducted by the 1-10 State Bar of Texas in conjunction with the state's Educational 1-11 Service Centers; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Organized in 1987, the Highlands High School Mock 1-13 Trial Team is sponsored by Martha Rocha Enriquez, a government and 1-14 economics teacher who has taught at the school for 15 years, and by 1-15 our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Robert Puente, a proud 1-16 alumnus of Highlands High; they have both dedicated themselves to 1-17 helping these students develop the skills they need to be effective 1-18 scholars and debaters; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Displaying commitment, integrity, and intelligence, 1-20 these exceptional students will be the Lone Star State's leaders of 1-21 tomorrow; the team's members include Arturo Alvarez, Gary Blumberg, 1-22 Sandra Gonzalez, Brad Holbrook, Benjamin Otero, Jennifer Saenz, 1-23 Leslie Zavala, and Christine Zepeda, and it is indeed fitting at 1-24 this time that they be honored for their notable accomplishments; 2-1 now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby honor the members and coaches of the Highlands 2-4 High School Mock Trial Team for their many outstanding achievements 2-5 and extend warmest best wishes for an enjoyable and educational 2-6 visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-8 for the members and coaches of this exemplary team as an expression 2-9 of highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
