H.R. No. 619 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of the Texas House of Representatives 1-2 take great pleasure in welcoming to the State Capitol a delegation 1-3 from the Republic of Kazakhstan; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The delegation is here today as part of a three-year 1-5 program of medical cooperation and assistance conducted by the 1-6 American International Health Alliance, and its members will be 1-7 traveling to Houston this week to sign a historic partnership 1-8 agreement with the Texas Medical Center; our distinguished guests 1-9 include Dr. Bakhit N. Tumenova, Dr. Mukhmetkarim Orazabayev, Nurse 1-10 Natalya Sukhorukova, Dr. Mukhtar Tuleutaev, Dr. Gadulmanap Abeyev, 1-11 Dr. Askar Makashev, Dr. Kaynolla Musin, Dr. Tolegen Raisov, Dr. 1-12 Boris Gordin, Dr. Zhaksibay Zhumadilov, and Dr. Boris Gusev; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Republic of Kazakhstan is a remarkable nation 1-14 that was the site of a great nomadic empire during the late 15th 1-15 and early 16th centuries that was made part of the Russian empire 1-16 in 1848; later, Kazakhstan became one of the most important 1-17 economic regions in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1-18 producing more than 25 percent of the country's agricultural goods 1-19 and containing a significant amount of the region's natural 1-20 resources; and 1-21 WHEREAS, With the dissolution of the Soviet regime in 1991 1-22 and the subsequent end of the Cold War, the Republic of Kazakhstan 1-23 has emerged as an autonomous and democratic nation that remains 1-24 steadfast in its course toward peace and prosperity; as a member of 2-1 the Commonwealth of Independent States, this outstanding country 2-2 has taken a leading role in establishing economic reforms and in 2-3 stabilizing relations with other nations throughout Europe and 2-4 Asia; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Like the Lone Star State, Kazakhstan is a leading 2-6 producer of livestock and grain, a major center for oil and natural 2-7 gas production, and home to many impressive scientific researchers 2-8 and medical professionals; the citizens of Kazakhstan can indeed 2-9 take great pride in the independent spirit and unwavering faith in 2-10 democracy that they have displayed in their struggle for 2-11 self-government; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Because of the special ties that Texas shares with 2-13 this fine country, and because of a groundbreaking partnership that 2-14 will help our medical communities to exchange personnel, training, 2-15 and knowledge, it is truly appropriate that the delegates of the 2-16 Republic of Kazakhstan be given special legislative recognition at 2-17 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-19 Legislature hereby welcome the delegation of the Republic of 2-20 Kazakhstan and extend to them warmest best wishes for an enjoyable 2-21 and rewarding visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for the delegation as an expression of highest regard by 2-24 the Texas House of Representatives.
