                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Blease Tibbets has
    1-2  consistently given freely of his time and talents to the betterment
    1-3  of his community, and in honor of his many civic contributions, a
    1-4  golf tournament will be held in his name on April 20, 1995, at the
    1-5  Iron Horse Golf Course in North Richland Hills; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, This worthy event, which is being sponsored by the
    1-7  Hurst-Euless-Bedford Rotary Club, will benefit that fine
    1-8  organization's scholarship programs for deserving seniors at
    1-9  Trinity and Bell high schools; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A native of Seymour, Mr. Tibbets was graduated from
   1-11  Arlington High School in 1940 and took a position at Arlington
   1-12  State Bank the following year; an outstanding patriot, he enlisted
   1-13  in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served his country with
   1-14  distinction during World War II; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, On completing his military service in 1946, this
   1-16  exemplary individual returned to Arlington and resumed his career
   1-17  in banking, rejoining the staff at Arlington State Bank; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Mr. Tibbets was determined to take on more
   1-19  challenging career responsibilities and took his unique talents to
   1-20  First National Bank Handley in 1950; propelled by his keen business
   1-21  acumen, he achieved the pinnacle of success in his profession when
   1-22  he became president of First State Bank in Euless in 1962, and he
   1-23  also served in that capacity at the First State Bank in Bedford a
   1-24  decade later, attaining tremendous success at both institutions in
    2-1  that difficult and demanding role; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Equally accomplished in the civic arena, Mr. Tibbets
    2-3  helped his fellow citizens realize the dream of building a
    2-4  community medical facility with the opening of Harris Methodist on
    2-5  June 24, 1973, while serving as chairman of the
    2-6  Hurst-Euless-Bedford hospital board; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, An active member of the rotary club since 1954, he
    2-8  became a charter member of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Rotary Club in
    2-9  1962 and has given that organization unparalleled support for more
   2-10  than three decades, during which time he served a term as its
   2-11  president; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Other worthy organizations that have benefited from
   2-13  his leadership include the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Chamber of
   2-14  Commerce, the Northeast YMCA, and the Boy Scouts of America
   2-15  Longhorn Council; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, His favorite film is It's a Wonderful Life and
   2-17  Mr. Tibbet's efforts have meant as much to the welfare of his
   2-18  neighbors in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford community as James Stewart's
   2-19  character George Bailey's did to the mythical residents of Bedford
   2-20  Falls; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction,
   2-22  Mr. Tibbets practices his faith as an active member of the First
   2-23  Baptist Church in Euless, where he has worshipped for 33 years; and
   2-24        WHEREAS, This fine gentleman has been supported in all his
   2-25  endeavors by his devoted wife, Eva, and by their children, Douglas,
   2-26  Barbara, and Gayla; and
   2-27        WHEREAS, Blease Tibbets has been a force for positive change
    3-1  in his community in both the business and civic arenas and his
    3-2  significant contributions in this regard are indeed worthy of
    3-3  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    3-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    3-5  Legislature hereby commend Blease Tibbets for his many noteworthy
    3-6  achievements as a businessman and civic leader on the occasion of
    3-7  the golf tournament that justly bears his name; and, be it further
    3-8        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-9  prepared for Mr. Tibbets as an expression of high regard by the
   3-10  Texas House of Representatives.
