H.R. No. 651 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Bernadette Presley-Selexman has been selected by the 1-2 Texas Legislative Black Caucus to receive the Outstanding Texan 1-3 award in the category of professional development, and this special 1-4 recognition is indeed well deserved; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is presented every two years 1-6 to Texans who have achieved and contributed to their profession and 1-7 community, and Mrs. Presley-Selexman's outstanding accomplishments 1-8 not only meet these criteria but set a high standard to which 1-9 others can aspire; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Houston's Fifth Ward, 1-11 Mrs. Presley-Selexman is the proprietor of Scientific Barber Shop, 1-12 which was established by her mother 48 years ago; when she assumed 1-13 ownership of the business, Mrs. Presley-Selexman transformed it 1-14 into one of the most fashionable salons in the area, and her 1-15 success has been an inspiration to small business owners throughout 1-16 the Fifth Ward; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Today, Scientific Barber Shop's unique style of 1-18 grooming has brought it to the forefront of the hairstyling 1-19 profession in Houston, and the shop draws its customers from all 1-20 over the city; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Presley-Selexman has continually reinvested in 1-22 the neighborhood in which she lives and works, and over the past 1-23 half-century, her selfless efforts in behalf of her friends and 1-24 neighbors have made her a pillar of the Fifth Ward community; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The devoted wife of Joe Selexman, this remarkable 2-2 woman is regarded with tremendous love and affection by her four 2-3 children and three grandchildren; Mrs. Presley-Selexman has taken 2-4 an active role in leading her extended family as well, looking 2-5 after the needs of her elderly aunts and serving as a role model 2-6 for her young nieces and nephews; and 2-7 WHEREAS, For many years, Bernadette Presley-Selexman has 2-8 worked tirelessly for the betterment of her community and state; 2-9 her efforts have greatly enhanced the quality of life for many 2-10 fellow Texans and truly merit special recognition by the members of 2-11 this chamber; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby congratulate Bernadette Presley-Selexman on her 2-14 receipt of the Outstanding Texan award in the category of 2-15 professional development from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus 2-16 and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued success and 2-17 fulfillment in her chosen field; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mrs. Presley-Selexman as an expression of high regard 2-20 by the Texas House of Representatives.
