H.R. No. 654 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On April 21, 1995, the Texas Historical Commission 1-2 will honor Reinhardt Elementary School with the dedication of an 1-3 official historical marker, recognizing the important historical 1-4 and educational role this institution has played in the Casa Linda 1-5 area of Dallas for more than 100 years; and 1-6 WHEREAS, With origins dating to the 1880s, when a small frame 1-7 building was built on a farm owned by John Chenault, this fine 1-8 school initially served the children of early pioneer families that 1-9 had settled in the beautiful White Rock area of Dallas; soon after 1-10 1885, when the Santa Fe Railroad constructed a major rail line and 1-11 depot in the area, the small but thriving community of Reinhardt 1-12 was born, and the facility began to serve children of local 1-13 merchants, business people, and farmers under its new name, 1-14 Reinhardt Elementary School; and 1-15 WHEREAS, By 1900, the charming schoolhouse that once housed 1-16 the institution was no longer large enough to serve the needs of 1-17 the growing town of Reinhardt, and a new frame building was 1-18 constructed near the rail line; children in the community attended 1-19 six grades of elementary school in the new facility, receiving 1-20 instruction from two very dedicated and versatile teachers; and 1-21 WHEREAS, During the next few decades, Reinhardt Elementary 1-22 School continued to expand in order to keep pace with the needs of 1-23 the town, moving to a second frame building about 1910, to a red, 1-24 two-story brick structure in 1921, and to a larger permanent 2-1 facility in 1941; toward the end of World War II, when the town of 2-2 Reinhardt was annexed by Dallas, the elementary school joined 2-3 forces with the Dallas school system in its effort to serve the 2-4 ever-growing number of children in the Casa Linda neighborhood; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Considered the "mother school" of Casa View 2-6 Elementary and several other area schools, Reinhardt Elementary 2-7 School has for more than a century provided Texas children with a 2-8 superb public education, and it is indeed appropriate that this 2-9 fine facility be given special recognition and support; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby honor the students, faculty, and parents of 2-13 Reinhardt Elementary School as they celebrate the dedication of an 2-14 official state historical marker and commend them for their 2-15 unwavering commitment to promoting excellence in education; and, be 2-16 it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for prominent display at Reinhardt Elementary School as an 2-19 expression of highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
