By Jones of Dallas H.R. No. 663 74R10151 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, J. D. Hall was recently named president of the Texas 1-2 Association of Community College Trustees and Administrators, and 1-3 this special recognition is indeed richly deserved; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Since he first joined this respected association a 1-5 number of years ago, Dr. Hall has shared his considerable expertise 1-6 with his professional colleagues and grown increasingly involved 1-7 with the valuable work of the organization as a member of its board 1-8 of directors and as its vice president, helping to steer the 1-9 55-year-old organization in its mission to promote the continued 1-10 education and development of community college professionals in 1-11 this state; and 1-12 WHEREAS, He currently serves as vice chairman of the board of 1-13 trustees for the Dallas County Community College District and has 1-14 provided outstanding leadership to that prominent organization 1-15 since first being elected to the board in 1978; during his 1-16 innovative tenure, the district has initiated a number of 1-17 successful programs, including the award-winning "Do the Bright 1-18 Thing" stay-in-school program, which has generated thousands of 1-19 dollars in scholarship money for area community college students; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, A former teacher, principal, and assistant 1-22 superintendent for the Lancaster public school system, this 1-23 outstanding Texan brings to his office a wealth of valuable 1-24 experience and a broad perspective on educational issues gained 2-1 through his many years of service in the classroom, as a school 2-2 administrator, and as a successful businessman; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Dr. Hall has been recognized nationally by the 2-4 Association of Governing Boards for Colleges and Universities for 2-5 his extensive record of accomplishments and earned recognition 2-6 closer to home when he was honored by his hometown of Marshall, 2-7 which named him to the city's Hall of Fame; a graduate of Texas 2-8 Southern University with a master's degree in education, he also 2-9 was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree by Paul Quinn College 2-10 in Dallas; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Equally accomplished in the civic realm, Dr. Hall 2-12 has been an active participant and leader in many worthwhile 2-13 organizations in his community, such as the Red Cross, the YMCA, 2-14 Volunteers of America, the Urban League, Goals for Dallas, the Oak 2-15 Cliff Chamber of Commerce, and Black Dallas Remembered, to name but 2-16 a few; and 2-17 WHEREAS, On the homefront, he enjoys an extraordinarily happy 2-18 partnership with his wife, Lillie Belle, who shares in his many 2-19 personal and professional triumphs and in his commitment to the 2-20 education of our state's young people; and 2-21 WHEREAS, A prominent leader in his community, Dr. Hall 2-22 assumes his new duties as president of the Texas Association of 2-23 Community College Trustees and Administrators with the overwhelming 2-24 endorsement of his friends and colleagues and will undoubtedly 2-25 provide excellent direction to this important organization in the 2-26 coming year; now, therefore, be it 2-27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-1 Legislature hereby congratulate J. D. Hall on being chosen 3-2 president of the Texas Association of Community College Trustees 3-3 and Administrators and extend sincere best wishes to him for 3-4 continued success and happiness in his challenging new post; and, 3-5 be it further 3-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-7 prepared for Dr. Hall as an expression of highest regard by the 3-8 Texas House of Representatives.
