                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Helen Goodrum is one of only nine people who were
    1-2  chosen to receive the Governor's Awards for Outstanding Volunteer
    1-3  Services, and this special recognition is indeed well deserved; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A former employee of Sanger-Harris, Ms. Goodrum
    1-5  began volunteering at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
    1-6  the day after she retired; some 21 years later, she is still
    1-7  working at the hospital two days a week; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Her cheerful spirit and faithful service have
    1-9  brightened the lives of thousands of children who visit the
   1-10  outpatient clinic every year, and although the clinic's busy
   1-11  schedule sends as many as 156 children a day past Ms. Goodrum's
   1-12  appointment desk, she makes sure that each and every child receives
   1-13  special attention; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Ms. Goodrum further serves the hospital by
   1-15  volunteering at Dr.  Everett Moody's Eye Clinic, where she has
   1-16  become a mainstay to the doctors, staff, and patients; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Although she suffered a serious injury several years
   1-18  ago, Ms. Goodrum has not allowed her spirit of compassion to be
   1-19  dampened; this remarkable woman not only recovered from an injury
   1-20  that could have permanently disabled her, she returned to her
   1-21  volunteer work with the same enthusiasm and generous nature that
   1-22  have become her trademarks; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, This dedication and commitment have earned her the
   1-24  respect and admiration of all who know her, and Ms. Goodrum was
    2-1  previously honored by the Volunteer Center of Dallas County with
    2-2  its 1994 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for Lifetime
    2-3  Service; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Helen Goodrum has worked
    2-5  tirelessly on behalf of the most vulnerable members of our society,
    2-6  and her efforts to help sick and disabled children are indeed
    2-7  worthy of highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby congratulate Helen Goodrum for being named one
   2-10  of the recipients of the Governor's Awards for Outstanding
   2-11  Volunteer Services and extend to her warmest best wishes for
   2-12  continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for Ms. Goodrum as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-15  Texas House of Representatives.
