                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
    1-2  recognize members of the Association of Chinese Organizations of
    1-3  Houston on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Since 1954, this fine association has worked for the
    1-5  betterment of the Chinese community in Houston, and its efforts
    1-6  have had a tremendous positive impact on the entire city; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Originally formed by the eight largest Chinese
    1-8  organizations in Houston, the association now consists of 21 of the
    1-9  most influential and effective Asian civic groups in the city; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, By coordinating their efforts to address the serious
   1-11  issues facing Asian-American immigrants, members have served as
   1-12  productive and forceful agents for change in Houston for more than
   1-13  40 years; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The members of this chamber are honored by the visit
   1-15  of a delegation of these outstanding civic leaders, all of whom
   1-16  have expressed an interest in learning more about state government
   1-17  and the legislative process by making time in their busy schedules
   1-18  to tour the Capitol and observe the process of democracy in action;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Communities across the nation are looking for
   1-21  innovative ways to resolve the many pressing issues facing our
   1-22  country, and the efforts of civic groups and community activists
   1-23  have become one of the most powerful forces in the fight to save
   1-24  our cities; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The members of the Association of Chinese
    2-2  Organizations of Houston have joined forces in this noble cause,
    2-3  and their efforts in behalf of the Chinese-American community, the
    2-4  city of Houston, and the State of Texas are indeed worthy of
    2-5  highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby commend the members of the Association of
    2-8  Chinese Organizations of Houston for their community involvement
    2-9  and interest in the legislative process and extend to them a warm
   2-10  welcome on their visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for the Association of Chinese Organizations of Houston as
   2-13  an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
