No. 679 74R10004 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Each year the historic community of Sacul in 1-2 Nacogdoches County sponsors the Sacul Folk Festival, and this year, 1-3 the highly anticipated event will be held on June 10, 1995; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The 1995 celebration will pay special tribute to the 1-5 men and women of Sacul who answered their country's call to arms 1-6 during her hour of need, upholding the cause of freedom as members 1-7 of the United States armed forces during World War II; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After the onset of the war, the following patriotic 1-9 citizens who were born and attended school in Sacul enlisted to 1-10 serve their country: Buddy Acrey, Lowell Applewhite, Fletcher 1-11 Beard, Delma Blackburn, Frank Blackburn, Robert Blackburn, Coy 1-12 Booker, J. H. Williamson; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Current residents of this exceptional Texas 2-9 community who served with distinction in this monumental conflict 2-10 are Odis Bradshaw, O. E. Dahms, Jasper Marks, and James White; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Several of Sacul's finest young men paid the 2-12 ultimate price in service to their country during World War II; 2-13 Burleson Corley, W. E. "Bill" Stegall, and W. T. Williamson bravely 2-14 gave their lives in behalf of their fellow Americans, and their act 2-15 of supreme sacrifice is an enduring aspect of the city's proud 2-16 heritage; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Through their sponsorship of the Sacul Folk 2-18 Festival, the citizens of Sacul preserve the area's rich history, 2-19 and this year's exceptional efforts to honor these brave World War 2-20 II veterans are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; 2-21 now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-23 Legislature hereby honor the Sacul Folk Festival on the occasion of 2-24 the 1995 event that is dedicated this year to paying tribute to the 2-25 city's World War II veterans on the 50th anniversary of that 2-26 conflict's triumphant conclusion; and, be it further 2-27 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-1 prepared for the city of Sacul as an expression of high regard by 3-2 the Texas House of Representatives.
