R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Many hours of practice and preparation are required
1-2 to build a successful team, and the members and director of the
1-3 Overton High School Mustang Band have displayed considerable
1-4 dedication and commitment in building one of the finest musical
1-5 teams in the state; and
1-6 WHEREAS, From the late 1930s through today, this exceptional
1-7 band has been a leading contender in competitions throughout Texas;
1-8 the school's crowded trophy case bears witness to the band's many
1-9 years of achievement, and with the continuing support of the entire
1-10 Overton community, today's band members have capably lived up to
1-11 their school's proud legacy; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of director Ronnie Page, the
1-13 Mustang Band has earned an unprecedented four consecutive
1-14 sweepstakes awards from the University Interscholastic League;
1-15 considered the pinnacle of success for school bands, the
1-16 sweepstakes award signifies that the band has earned the highest
1-17 rating possible in all areas of competition, including marching,
1-18 sight-reading, and concert performance; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Moreover, the band recently was one of only five
1-20 finalists in the selection of the Texas Music Educators Association
1-21 Class A Honors Band, and they will audition for this prestigious
1-22 honor again during the summer of 1995; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Student musicians also compete in solo and ensemble
1-24 categories, and Overton High School band members have met with
2-1 great success in these areas as well; individual students have
2-2 earned numerous First Division honors, and the Mustang Band is
2-3 consistently well represented in the large regional band
2-4 competitions; and
2-5 WHEREAS, The hardworking members of the Overton High School
2-6 Mustang Band have traveled to the Capitol today to learn firsthand
2-7 about the legislative process, and the members of this chamber are
2-8 proud to have the opportunity to salute them for their dedication
2-9 and initiative; if they are indicative of the caliber of young
2-10 people in this state, the future of Texas is in capable hands; now,
2-11 therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby honor band director Ronnie Page and all the
2-14 members of the Overton High School Mustang Band for their continued
2-15 excellence and extend to them a warm welcome on their visit to the
2-16 Capitol; and, be it further
2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18 prepared for the Overton High School Mustang Band as an expression
2-19 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
