No. 684 74R10970 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation will be holding 1-2 the fifth annual Cultural Philanthropy Awards on April 30, 1995, at 1-3 the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, and the event promises to be a 1-4 memorable and worthwhile occasion for all who attend; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Popularly known as the CUP Awards, this prestigious 1-6 program was created to honor individuals and corporations who have 1-7 made significant contributions to multi-ethnic visual and 1-8 performing artists and cultural organizations; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Established in 1990 by public relations executive 1-10 Denise Sharpton, the foundation has done a tremendous job of 1-11 promoting greater understanding and cooperation between people of 1-12 different cultures and ethnic backgrounds; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This year's ceremony will be hosted by 1-14 Emmy-award-winning actress Esther Rolle and KDFW-TV producer and 1-15 multicultural affairs director Rochelle Brown and will honor 1-16 individuals and corporations in eight different industries, 1-17 including banking, law, oil and gas, media, arts and entertainment, 1-18 and telecommunications; in addition, an individual and a 1-19 corporation will be honored with receipt of a special Founder's 1-20 Award in recognition of their outstanding support of cultural 1-21 diversity in the arts; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Continuing an exciting tradition of multicultural 1-23 entertainment, the 1995 program will feature dazzling performances 1-24 and exhibits by artists representing a diverse spectrum of 2-1 ethnicity and talent, including jazz trumpeter Whitney Russell, the 2-2 Philippine Arts Theatre, artist Johnice Parker, and winning entries 2-3 in the foundation's annual mask-making competition for children, as 2-4 well as a colorful costume pageant showcasing fashions from around 2-5 the globe; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation's CUP Awards 2-7 program unites people from a wide variety of backgrounds and 2-8 professions to celebrate diversity and to support the vital 2-9 contributions of multi-ethnic artists and cultural organizations to 2-10 society today, and this worthy event indeed merits our special 2-11 praise and recognition for its many exceptional contributions at 2-12 this time; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby commend the Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation, 2-15 its founder Denise Sharpton, and the sponsors of the fifth annual 2-16 Cultural Philanthropy Awards for their exemplary work in 2-17 encouraging cultural harmony through the arts; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the Multi-Ethnic Heritage Foundation as an expression 2-20 of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives.
