H.R. No. 687 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Clara M. Anthony for the many significant contributions she has 1-3 made to the Houston community as a businesswoman and community 1-4 volunteer; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Anthony was born October 9, 1941, in Freeport 1-6 and was graduated from Irma Hughes Business School in 1962, earning 1-7 a diploma for stenography and office bookkeeping; and 1-8 WHEREAS, She has distinguished herself through 33 years of 1-9 outstanding service with Kirkwood and Hunter Electric Company in 1-10 Houston, where she worked as a secretary during the early years of 1-11 her career; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Well regarded for her professionalism, hard work, 1-13 and attention to detail, she also served as business manager before 1-14 assuming her current post as the corporation's secretary and 1-15 treasurer; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Throughout her professional career, Mrs. Anthony has 1-17 maintained close ties to the Houston community; the mother of two, 1-18 she is deeply committed to improving the quality of education in 1-19 the community, and to that end, has capably served as financial 1-20 secretary with the Lockhart Elementary School Parent-Teacher 1-21 Association; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A deeply religious woman, she is a devout member of 1-23 Nazarene Baptist Church, where she gives generously of her time, 1-24 talents, and energies as a youth counselor with the church's Young 2-1 People's Department, working with its senior girls' group; she also 2-2 has drawn upon her extensive business skills to serve as a member 2-3 of the church's financial committee; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished lifetime, Mrs. Anthony 2-5 has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Houston community, 2-6 and her exceptional efforts are most worthy of special legislative 2-7 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby honor Clara M. Anthony for the many significant 2-10 contributions she has made to the Houston community and wish her 2-11 continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for Mrs. Anthony as an expression of high regard by the 2-14 Texas House of Representatives.
