                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The fifth Carrier-Hollier Family Reunion will take
    1-2  place from June 30 through July 2, 1995, in Houston, and the
    1-3  celebration promises to be a fun-filled event for all concerned;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Family members will be coming from throughout
    1-6  Louisiana and Texas to enjoy fine dining, entertainment, and other
    1-7  activities planned by the reunion's organizing committee, which
    1-8  includes Janis Syas, Ovie Hendrick, Margaret Griffin, Lynn Page,
    1-9  and chairperson Patti Rollins; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The roots of the Carrier-Hollier family can be
   1-11  traced to 1897, when Odile Hollier married Theo Carrier, Sr.; eight
   1-12  years later, Odile's sister, Julia, married Jessie Carrier, and the
   1-13  rest, as they say, is history; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In 1976, several enthusiastic members of the
   1-15  Carrier-Hollier family began to plan a special gathering for their
   1-16  relatives to reflect on their past and look forward to their
   1-17  future; the first reunion was held in Lake Charles, Louisiana,
   1-18  under the able guidance of Maude Carrier Alston, Ruby Carrier
   1-19  Booth, Helen Carrier Claverie, Flora Bell Carrier McKinney,
   1-20  Margaret Carrier Griffin, and Mildred Carrier Syas, who is today
   1-21  the oldest member of this remarkable clan; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The gathering was such a resounding success that
   1-23  other family reunions were held in Lake Charles and in New Orleans,
   1-24  Louisiana, and Opelousas, Louisiana; this year will mark the first
    2-1  time that the family has chosen to hold its reunion in the Lone
    2-2  Star State; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Carrier-Hollier Family Reunion presents family
    2-4  members with a rare opportunity to pay tribute to their heritage,
    2-5  develop new friendships, and establish lasting family memories, and
    2-6  it is indeed appropriate that the Texas House of Representatives
    2-7  honor them on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby honor the Carrier-Hollier Family Reunion and
   2-10  extend warmest best wishes to the participants for a meaningful and
   2-11  memorable event; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for prominent display at the reunion as an expression of
   2-14  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
