R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Austin Association for the Education of Young
1-2 Children (AAEYC) is a nonprofit organization that is committed to
1-3 securing the well-being of the young children in its community by
1-4 making sure that their needs and rights are being met; and
1-5 WHEREAS, An affiliate of the state and national associations
1-6 for the education of young children, as well as the Southern Early
1-7 Childhood Association, the AAEYC works closely with other
1-8 concerned groups in the community to study, interpret, and work for
1-9 the improved education and development of all children, from birth
1-10 through eight years old; and
1-11 WHEREAS, To this end, the AAEYC conducts workshops, seminars,
1-12 and annual conferences that serve as a valuable forum for the
1-13 exchange of innovative ideas, resources, and information designed
1-14 to expand and enhance the services being provided to children; and
1-15 WHEREAS, The organization disseminates information on current
1-16 legislation relating to the rights and needs of young children,
1-17 provides consulting services to both members and nonmembers, and
1-18 awards educational grants each year to students seeking to further
1-19 their studies in the areas of child development and early childhood
1-20 education; and
1-21 WHEREAS, The AAEYC also spotlights individuals in the
1-22 community who have made significant contributions toward the lives
1-23 of young children by presenting them with awards for their
1-24 exemplary efforts; and
2-1 WHEREAS, In addition, the group serves as the local sponsor
2-2 of the Week of the Young Child, a national event that is held each
2-3 year under the auspices of the National Association for the
2-4 Education of Young Children to focus attention on the rights and
2-5 needs of young children; and
2-6 WHEREAS, This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Week of
2-7 the Young Child, and the event provides an opportune time for all
2-8 responsible adults to join together and work toward providing a
2-9 brighter future for our state's most precious resource, our
2-10 children; now, therefore, be it
2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th
2-12 Texas Legislature hereby designate April 23-29, 1995, as the Week
2-13 of the Young Child in Texas and encourage all Texans to observe
2-14 this event by sharing their time with a child; and, be it further
2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16 prepared for the Austin Association for the Education of Young
2-17 Children as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-18 Representatives.
