H.R. No. 699 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On May 20, 1995, the Texas Historical Commission 1-2 will honor the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Cedar Hill with the 1-3 dedication of an official historical marker, recognizing the 1-4 significant role this site has played in the history of Dallas and 1-5 Ellis counties for more than 125 years; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The land that comprises this important Texas 1-7 institution was originally settled by the families of Isaac Lowe, 1-8 Robert Ground, James Holland, and Jacob and Drusilla Boydstun in 1-9 1848, after these many determined pioneers immigrated from Illinois 1-10 to build a more successful and prosperous future in the Lone Star 1-11 State; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Henry Boydstun, the son of Jacob and Drusilla 1-13 Boydstun, died later that same year, and he was buried on the 1-14 family's farm at the same location a historical marker will be 1-15 placed to teach future generations of Texans about their past; in 1-16 1870, the Boydstun family donated 3-1/2 acres of the land 1-17 surrounding their son's gravesite to be used for cemetery, church, 1-18 and educational purposes by local residents; and 1-19 WHEREAS, By 1907, the cemetery had established itself as an 1-20 important part of the Cedar Hill community and an additional 1-1/2 1-21 acres were added to the site, which includes the gravesites of many 1-22 well-known Texas pioneers and their descendants; today, more than a 1-23 century after its founding, the Pleasant Valley Cemetery is 1-24 maintained by an organization devoted to preserving its rich 2-1 historical, cultural, and social legacy, and it is indeed 2-2 appropriate that this significant site be given special legislative 2-3 recognition and support; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of an official state 2-6 historical marker at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery and extend 2-7 warmest best wishes to the citizens of Cedar Hill as they celebrate 2-8 this important event; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the Pleasant Valley Cemetery as an expression of high 2-11 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
