No. 720 74R11691 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Sheldon Lamey, a gifted student-athlete at Travis High School, for 1-3 his achievement in being recognized as an Outstanding 1-4 African-American Student by the Alpha Kappa Zeta Chapter of Zeta 1-5 Phi Beta Sorority; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A community-conscious, action-oriented organization, 1-7 the sorority is celebrating 75 years of world class service this 1-8 year and is commemorating this significant milestone in its rich 1-9 history by honoring exceptional African-American high school 1-10 students within the Austin Independent School District who have 1-11 excelled in the area of academic achievement, fine arts, or sports; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, The many exemplary achievements of Texas' 1-14 student-athletes indicate that education and athletics are not 1-15 competing goals but rather are two vital aspects of the scholastic 1-16 experience that, when combined, produce multitalented young Texans 1-17 with a profound understanding of competition, self-confidence, 1-18 unity, and teamwork; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The State of Texas is justly renowned as the home of 1-20 many of the finest student-athletes in the nation, and Sheldon 1-21 Lamey's notable efforts add yet another chapter to our state's 1-22 proud legacy of excellence; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This inspirational individual has been a tremendous 1-24 source of pride to his family, school, and community, and his 2-1 superior accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative 2-2 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate Sheldon Lamey on being named an 2-5 Outstanding African-American Student for his remarkable 2-6 achievements as a student-athlete and extend sincere best wishes to 2-7 him for continued success in all future endeavors; and, be it 2-8 further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mr. Lamey as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-11 House of Representatives.
