                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1978, the Greater Houston
    1-2  Preservation Alliance has promoted the preservation and
    1-3  appreciation of historical, cultural, and architectural landmarks
    1-4  and neighborhoods within the city of Houston; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Encompassing a wide range of neighborhood
    1-6  associations and historical societies, this outstanding alliance
    1-7  has worked closely with the Old Sixth Ward Neighborhood Association
    1-8  to save important buildings within the Houston community, including
    1-9  two beautiful Victorian cottages built in the 1880s; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Greater Houston Preservation Alliance has also
   1-11  been a driving force in providing affordable housing to area
   1-12  residents; in addition to its work on behalf of the Cannata
   1-13  Affordable Homes Preservation Project, this fine group has
   1-14  supported the efforts of the Old Sixth Ward Community Development
   1-15  Corporation, an organization founded in 1991 to market properties,
   1-16  prequalify low-income home buyers, and help preserve historic
   1-17  buildings; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The Greater Houston Preservation Alliance has made
   1-19  many invaluable contributions toward protecting the historical,
   1-20  cultural, and architectural resources of the city of Houston and of
   1-21  the entire State of Texas, and its many splendid efforts ensure
   1-22  that our state's heritage will be passed on to generations of
   1-23  Texans for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-1  Legislature hereby recognize the many fine accomplishments of the
    2-2  Greater Houston Preservation Alliance; and, be it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance as an
    2-5  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
