                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Hidalgo High School Lady Pirates basketball team
    1-2  achieved outstanding success during the 1994-95 season, having won
    1-3  the District 32 3A cochampionship and a coveted place in the
    1-4  University Interscholastic League Class 3A state tournament; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A formidable force in tournament play, the Lady
    1-6  Pirates rolled to bi-district and area titles before faltering in
    1-7  the regional championship contest, ending their storybook season
    1-8  with a phenomenal record of 25 wins against only eight defeats and
    1-9  earning a final ranking among the top 10 teams listed in the Rio
   1-10  Grande Valley girls' high school basketball poll; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Although each member of the Lady Pirates squad made
   1-12  significant contributions to the team's overall success, senior
   1-13  guard Marisol Sanchez attained special distinction as the leading
   1-14  scorer in District 32 3A and the entire Rio Grande Valley; her
   1-15  superb play earned her a place on the all-Valley and all-region
   1-16  first teams, and designation as Rio Grande Valley most valuable
   1-17  player and co-most valuable player in her district; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Head coach Raquel J. Carmona, in her second year
   1-19  with the Lady Pirates, inspired her charges to consistently compete
   1-20  at the highest level, and for her efforts she was chosen co-coach
   1-21  of the year for District 32 3A and earned coach of the year
   1-22  recognition by the Monitor and High School Sports magazine; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, These exemplary young women are a tremendous source
   1-24  of pride to the students and faculty of Hidalgo High School and
    2-1  their many supporters in the community, and their outstanding
    2-2  athletic accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative
    2-3  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-5  Legislature hereby congratulate the Hidalgo High School Lady
    2-6  Pirates basketball team on its remarkable achievements during the
    2-7  1994-95 season, including the District 32 3A cochampionship and
    2-8  bi-district and area championships, and extend sincere best wishes
    2-9  to the team for continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for the team members, for Coach Carmona, and for prominent
   2-12  display at Hidalgo High School as an expression of high regard by
   2-13  the Texas House of Representatives.
