H.R. No. 757 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, For his many notable contributions in service to his 1-2 country, Juan R. Garcia, Jr., has been promoted to the rank of 1-3 captain in the United States Army; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This outstanding patriot was graduated from McAllen 1-5 High School in 1984 and pursued his higher education at the 1-6 University of Texas--Pan American, earning his bachelor of science 1-7 degree in criminal justice-police administration from that fine 1-8 institution in 1989; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He enlisted in the military on May 17, 1989, and 1-10 shortly thereafter demonstrated the exemplary dedication to duty 1-11 and tireless work ethic that are the hallmarks of every great 1-12 soldier as fire support coordinator for the commander of a Texas 1-13 Army National Guard infantry company; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In 1990 he was transferred to Nuremberg, Germany, 1-15 and served with distinction for over three years at several bases 1-16 in that country; during that period he assumed progressively 1-17 responsible positions and duties and represented his nation in a 1-18 manner reflective of the highest aspirations and expectations of 1-19 the American soldier; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Captain Garcia is currently stationed at Ft. Polk, 1-21 Louisiana, as a brigade intelligence staff officer, and his many 1-22 demanding duties there include supervising all aspects of security 1-23 within the brigade for compliance and effectiveness and 1-24 coordinating deployments of brigade elements in support of both 2-1 military exercises and actual operations; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Among the many military honors that have been 2-3 bestowed on this exemplary soldier are the Bronze Star Medal, the 2-4 Army Accommodation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Southwest 2-5 Asia Service Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, and two Army 2-6 Achievement Medals; and 2-7 WHEREAS, He has been supported in all his endeavors by his 2-8 parents, Lala and Juan R. Garcia, Sr., and by his wife, Sonya, who 2-9 also devotes her time to caring for their three fine sons; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Those individuals who devote their lives to 2-11 preserving the safety of our nation, often placing themselves in 2-12 exceptional physical peril during the course of their duties, 2-13 perform a vital service that benefits every American, and their 2-14 gallant efforts in this regard are indeed worthy of special 2-15 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Juan R. Garcia, Jr., on his 2-18 well-deserved promotion to the rank of captain in the U.S. Army and 2-19 extend sincere best wishes to him for continued success in the 2-20 future; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Captain Garcia as an expression of high regard by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
