H.R. No. 759 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 former mayor A. C. Jaime for his many significant contributions to 1-3 the city of Pharr as a businessman, public official, and civic 1-4 leader; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Premont, Adalberto C. Jaime received his 1-6 accounting degree from Pan American University in 1960 and 1-7 qualified as a certified public accountant three years later; and 1-8 WHEREAS, He began his accounting career in McAllen in 1963, 1-9 and he quickly developed a well-deserved reputation for excellence 1-10 based on his professionalism, hard work, and attention to detail; 1-11 he was selected to serve as a founding member of the Austin 1-12 Internal Revenue Service Liaison Committee, where he worked 1-13 tirelessly to institute changes in federal income tax procedures to 1-14 the benefit of taxpayers across the nation; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Jaime began his distinguished career in public 1-16 service in 1972, when he was elected mayor of the city of Pharr, 1-17 and he served his fellow citizens with integrity and distinction 1-18 for two terms before retiring from the post in 1978; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The city's first Hispanic mayor, he used his 1-20 extensive interpersonal skills to help ease the tensions that had 1-21 developed in the city, and he fought tirelessly to rid the city of 1-22 drug trafficking and prostitution; deeply committed to 1-23 transportation issues as well, he built upon the previous 1-24 administration's efforts to make the Pharr/Reynosa International 2-1 Bridge a reality; and 2-2 WHEREAS, An esteemed board member of the Rio Grande Valley 2-3 Development Council, he secured state funding to develop the Amigos 2-4 Del Valle senior citizens program, and he graciously served as a 2-5 founding board member and as the group's first president; and 2-6 WHEREAS, This public-spirited gentleman has continued to work 2-7 for the betterment of his community since retiring from public 2-8 office; he was a founding board member of the Vannie Cook Cancer 2-9 Treatment Center, which was the first comprehensive cancer 2-10 treatment facility in the Rio Grande Valley, and he worked to 2-11 enhance public safety as chairman of a citizen advisory panel for 2-12 the city's police department and municipal court; and 2-13 WHEREAS, He marshalled his boundless energy and enthusiasm to 2-14 positively affect numerous local issues as an active member of the 2-15 Pharr Kiwanis Club, and he continues to offer wise and thoughtful 2-16 guidance through his service to special committees for both the 2-17 city of Pharr and the local school district; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Throughout his many endeavors, he has enjoyed the 2-19 love and support of his wife, Dora Garcia Jaime, and their six 2-20 children; over the years, their close-knit family has continued to 2-21 grow, and the Jaimes now enjoy the company of nine cherished 2-22 grandchildren; and 2-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Jaime has devoted much of his lifetime to 2-24 working for the betterment of his community, and his exceptional 2-25 service is a source of inspiration to all who are privileged to 2-26 know him; now, therefore, be it 2-27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 3-1 Legislature hereby honor A. C. Jaime for his many outstanding 3-2 contributions to the city of Pharr and wish him continued success 3-3 in all his future endeavors; and, be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-5 prepared for Mr. Jaime as an expression of high regard by the Texas 3-6 House of Representatives.
