                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Words cannot convey the deep shock and sorrow that
    1-2  accompanied the tragic death of Special Agent Kelly E. Harris, who
    1-3  was killed in the line of duty on May 31, 1993; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A three-year veteran of the U.S. Secret Service,
    1-5  this outstanding officer personified the highest standards of
    1-6  professionalism, inspiring others with her loyalty, dedication, and
    1-7  exemplary conduct; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, During her tenure with the service, Special Agent
    1-9  Harris earned the respect and admiration of her associates for her
   1-10  strong sense of duty, which was a tangible reflection of her deep
   1-11  commitment to the public welfare; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Special Agent Harris's willingness to risk her own
   1-13  life to provide protection for others was in keeping with her
   1-14  personal philosophy, and her record of meritorious service,
   1-15  bravery, and self-sacrifice was consistent with the highest ideals
   1-16  of the law enforcement profession; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, This highly respected officer was a woman of
   1-18  tremendous integrity and courage whose exceptional record of public
   1-19  service speaks for itself; though her life has been cut tragically
   1-20  short, her memory endures as an inspiration to all those who were
   1-21  privileged to know her and to a new generation of law enforcement
   1-22  officers who choose to follow in this difficult but essential
   1-23  profession; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-1  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Special Agent Kelly
    2-2  E. Harris of the U.S. Secret Service and extend deepest sympathy to
    2-3  the members of her family: to her parents, Joseph and Mildred; to
    2-4  her brother, Ira; to her sisters, Maria, Julia, Ivy, and Minda; and
    2-5  to the many other friends and relatives of this esteemed peace
    2-6  officer; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-8  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
    2-9  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-10  Special Agent Kelly E. Harris.
