                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The men and women who pursue careers in the field of
    1-2  law enforcement in Texas are united by their pledge to provide
    1-3  safety and protection to their fellow Texans, even though the
    1-4  fulfillment of that vital commitment often places them in harm's
    1-5  way; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Officer Jessie D. Moorman, a valued member of the
    1-7  Fort Worth Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty on
    1-8  March 30, 1994, at the age of 47, while pursuing an escapee from
    1-9  the Texas Youth Commission; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A law enforcement veteran with more than two decades
   1-11  of experience, Officer Moorman served the people of Fort Worth with
   1-12  distinction, earning the respect and admiration of both the local
   1-13  citizenry and his fellow officers; during the course of his
   1-14  exemplary career, he was awarded 29 commendations, including one
   1-15  for assisting in the rescue of a man threatening to jump from the
   1-16  Allen Street bridge; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Those who serve in the field of law enforcement are
   1-18  among the most dedicated of all public servants, for they realize
   1-19  that although their efforts may often place them in exceptional
   1-20  physical peril, that level of personal risk is necessary to ensure
   1-21  the safety of those they are sworn to protect; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Officer Jessie D. Moorman exemplified the spirit of
   1-23  self-sacrifice that is at the core of every peace officer's pledge
   1-24  to provide for the public safety of everyone in the community;
    2-1  although his life was tragically cut short, his memory endures in
    2-2  the hearts of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore,
    2-3  be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-5  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Fort Worth Police
    2-6  Department Officer Jessie D.  Moorman and extend heartfelt sympathy
    2-7  to the members of his family: to his wife, Marilynn Moorman; to his
    2-8  children, Wesley D. Moorman and Carrie L. Van Zandt; to his
    2-9  brother, Charles D. Moorman; to his sister, Bette J. Raughton; to
   2-10  his grandchild; to his fellow officers; and to the many other
   2-11  friends and relatives of this exceptional officer; and, be it
   2-12  further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-15  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-16  Officer Jessie D. Moorman.
