                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The men and women who pursue careers in the field of
    1-2  law enforcement in Texas are united by their pledge to provide
    1-3  safety and protection to their fellow Texans, even though the
    1-4  fulfillment of that vital commitment often places them in harm's
    1-5  way; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Senior Corporal David R. Galvan, a valued member of
    1-7  the Dallas Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty on
    1-8  December 14, 1993, at the age of 48, in an automobile accident that
    1-9  occurred as he was trying to come to the aid of a fellow officer
   1-10  who was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A 16-year veteran of the department, Senior Corporal
   1-12  Galvan served the people of Dallas with distinction throughout his
   1-13  exceptional career, earning the respect and admiration of both the
   1-14  local citizenry and his fellow officers; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Those who serve in the field of law enforcement are
   1-16  among the most dedicated of all public servants, for they realize
   1-17  that although their efforts may often place them in exceptional
   1-18  physical peril, that level of personal risk is necessary to ensure
   1-19  the safety of those they are sworn to protect; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Senior Corporal David R. Galvan exemplified the
   1-21  spirit of self-sacrifice that is at the core of every peace
   1-22  officer's pledge to provide for the public safety of everyone in
   1-23  the community; although his life was tragically cut short, his
   1-24  memory endures in the hearts of all who were privileged to know
    2-1  him; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-3  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Senior Corporal David
    2-4  R. Galvan of the Dallas Police Department and extend heartfelt
    2-5  sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Rosa Galvan; to
    2-6  his daughter, Stephanie Galvan; to his parents, Edwin and Gayle
    2-7  Galvan; to his brothers, Glenn and Gary Galvan; to his fellow
    2-8  officers; and to the many other friends and relatives of this
    2-9  exceptional officer; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-12  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-13  Senior Corporal David R. Galvan.
