                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, People Attempting to Help, Inc. (PATH) was founded
    1-2  10 years ago to provide emergency assistance, job programs, and
    1-3  affordable housing for economically disadvantaged citizens of Smith
    1-4  County, and since that time it has helped tens of thousands of
    1-5  Texans to create a brighter and more prosperous future for
    1-6  themselves and their children; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Founded by Mrs. W. C. Windsor, who this year
    1-8  celebrates her 100th birthday, this exceptional organization brings
    1-9  together caring volunteers of all religious faiths and all walks of
   1-10  life in the noble effort to make communities in Tyler and Smith
   1-11  County better places in which to work, live, and raise a family;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, PATH volunteers operate a food pantry, emergency
   1-14  shelter, and job resource room for individuals and families in
   1-15  need; the group also assists Smith County's poorest residents in
   1-16  paying for basic human necessities such as shelter, utilities, and
   1-17  medical care, and each year PATH's many dedicated volunteers
   1-18  collect and distribute coats and school supplies for local
   1-19  children; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, People Attempting to Help, Inc., has been at the
   1-21  forefront of efforts in Tyler and Smith County to house homeless
   1-22  Texas families; in addition to providing short-term, transitional
   1-23  housing to indigent families, the organization works in conjunction
   1-24  with neighbors and community groups to develop underserved
    2-1  neighborhoods and, in partnership with local businesses, civic
    2-2  groups, and governmental agencies, it develops housing for
    2-3  low-income families; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The leaders and volunteers of PATH have demonstrated
    2-5  compassion, commitment, and creativity in their efforts to furnish
    2-6  emergency assistance to families in need and to provide individuals
    2-7  with a helping hand to enable them to become independent and
    2-8  productive members of the Smith County community; in light of their
    2-9  many notable accomplishments, it is indeed appropriate that PATH's
   2-10  members be given special legislative recognition; now, therefore,
   2-11  be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-13  Legislature hereby congratulate People Attempting to Help, Inc., on
   2-14  the occasion of its 10th anniversary and commend its founders,
   2-15  officers, and volunteers on their outstanding contributions to
   2-16  Tyler and Smith County; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-18  prepared for PATH as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-19  House of Representatives.
