                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
    1-2  commend the Honorable Thomas Walters, an esteemed former member of
    1-3  this chamber, who played a significant role in the passage of
    1-4  legislation of lasting benefit to the citizens of this state during
    1-5  his tenure in the house; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Like many of his colleagues, this fine gentleman
    1-7  paved the way for others who would one day follow in his footsteps,
    1-8  proving to many the great value inherent in public service and
    1-9  setting high standards to which others could aspire; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, While Mr. Walters was elected to represent his
   1-11  constituents in Hopkins County, he ably served not only those
   1-12  citizens who had entrusted him with their vote but also citizens
   1-13  from throughout the vast regions of the Lone Star State, for his
   1-14  love of Texas and its people knew no boundaries; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, This outstanding public servant was first elected
   1-16  during the administration of Governor W. Lee O'Daniel as a member
   1-17  of the Texas House of Representatives during the 47th Legislative
   1-18  Session, and he later responded to the repeated urging of his
   1-19  friends and neighbors in Northeast Texas to return to Austin for a
   1-20  second term and served with distinction as a member of the 48th
   1-21  Legislature; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, While a state representative, Mr. Walters played an
   1-23  instrumental role in the passage of state law entitling the elderly
   1-24  to receive pensions, and his efforts have greatly enhanced the
    2-1  retirement years of countless deserving Texans; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Thomas Walters has shown
    2-3  tremendous dedication and concern for his family, his community,
    2-4  and his fellow Texans from across the state, and it is indeed a
    2-5  great honor at this time to accord him the recognition he so richly
    2-6  deserves; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Thomas Walters on the many
    2-9  significant contributions he has made to his community and state
   2-10  and honor him for his exemplary service; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for Mr. Walters as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-13  Texas House of Representatives.
