                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  participating students from Truman Middle School in Grand Prairie
    1-3  on winning the 1995 Texas Math & Science Coaches Association Middle
    1-4  School Championship; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This dedicated group of students triumphed over a
    1-6  field of 47 other Class 5A schools from across the state in the
    1-7  competition held April 8, 1995, in San Antonio; this year's title
    1-8  marks the second consecutive time the Truman Middle School team has
    1-9  won the championship, a feat no other school in the history of the
   1-10  competition has duplicated; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, In addition to the overall title, Truman Middle
   1-12  School students won team state championships in number sense and
   1-13  mathematics and placed second in calculator and fourth in science
   1-14  competition; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Members of the state champion number sense team were
   1-16  William Wyatt, Austin Hobbs, Bryan Quijano, and Nick Mantegani; the
   1-17  mathematics squad was composed of William Wyatt, Bryan Quijano,
   1-18  Mindy Phillips, and Keith Harper, who worked in tandem to earn a
   1-19  score of 965 out of a possible 1,000 points in mathematics
   1-20  competition, which was the highest achieved in any event; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Several Truman Middle School students also earned
   1-22  individual distinction at the competition:  Bryan Quijano claimed
   1-23  his third state championship in the calculator competition and also
   1-24  placed third in number sense and fourth in mathematics, Eric Davila
    2-1  placed second in the science competition, William Wyatt was fifth
    2-2  in number sense and tied for fourth place in math with fellow team
    2-3  member Mindy Phillips, and Austin Hobbs earned sixth place in
    2-4  number sense; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Other students who made significant contributions to
    2-6  the Truman Middle School team's state championship include Kendall
    2-7  Carter, Kelly Watts, Ramon Cavazos, Matt Jorgensen, Deryk Graves,
    2-8  Sean Awuld, Cristal Webb, Colin Chandler, Eric Davita, Eric
    2-9  Chandler, Kim McPherson, Jarad Hall, Kendrick Marquez, Christine
   2-10  French, and Angela Hardin; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Coaches John Hobbs, Becky Burgess, and Donna Harper
   2-12  labored tirelessly to prepare their charges for the rigors of this
   2-13  event, encouraging team members in their studies and helping to
   2-14  fire their competitive spirit; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, The Truman Middle School Math & Science Team members
   2-16  demonstrated an exemplary command of their challenging subject
   2-17  matter during this demanding competition and it is indeed
   2-18  appropriate that these young scholars be given special legislative
   2-19  recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-21  Legislature hereby congratulate the participating students of
   2-22  Truman Middle School on winning the 1995 Texas Math & Science
   2-23  Coaches Association Middle School Championship and extend sincere
   2-24  best wishes to the students for continued success in the future;
   2-25  and, be it further
   2-26        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-27  prepared for these fine young students and for prominent display at
    3-1  Truman Middle School as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    3-2  House of Representatives.
