                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Lawrence Mitchell Hall on February
    1-2  14, 1993, at the age of 77, deeply saddened the many friends and
    1-3  relatives of this esteemed businessman and longtime resident of
    1-4  Anson; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was born in Lee County, Mississippi, and as
    1-6  a young man sought his fortune in West Texas, where he took a job
    1-7  working in the oil fields near the city of Andrews; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Relocating to Anson in 1937, he and a partner, Bill
    1-9  Lepard, launched their own business, the Hall & Lepard Oil Company,
   1-10  a highly successful venture that they operated together for nearly
   1-11  two decades before Mr. Hall left the enterprise to pursue new
   1-12  challenges; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Mr. Hall answered America's call to arms in 1942 and
   1-14  served bravely as a member of the United States Army during his
   1-15  tour of duty, which included a year in the war-torn European
   1-16  Theater; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, After his discharge, he returned home to Anson where
   1-18  he resumed his busy career in the oil business and courted the
   1-19  lovely Myrl Horn, whom he married on January 21, 1949, beginning a
   1-20  lifetime of loving cooperation as husband and wife; in the ensuing
   1-21  years, the couple reared five children, Larry, Mitch, Ann, Jan, and
   1-22  Beth, who brought their parents much joy through their many
   1-23  accomplishments; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Together with his wife, Mr. Hall purchased the local
    2-1  Chevrolet dealership in 1956 and transformed Lawrence Hall
    2-2  Chevrolet into a thriving automobile dealership that has become a
    2-3  prominent member of the Anson business community and, in recent
    2-4  years, has expanded to a new location in Abilene; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was held in high regard throughout the
    2-6  community for his sound business acumen, honesty, and dedication to
    2-7  family; a modest man who quietly contributed his time and energy to
    2-8  enable the city to flourish, he was a valued member of the board of
    2-9  directors of the First National Bank of Anson and a longtime member
   2-10  of the First United Methodist Church; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Lawrence Hall made many lasting contributions to the
   2-12  citizens of Anson during his lifetime, and the memory of his
   2-13  kindness, generosity, and integrity will long endure in the hearts
   2-14  of the many people whose lives he touched during his years on this
   2-15  earth; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-17  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lawrence Mitchell
   2-18  Hall and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
   2-19  his wife, Myrl Hall of Anson; to his sons, Larry Hall and Mitch
   2-20  Hall, both of Anson; to his daughters, Jan Lollar and Beth Hall of
   2-21  Anson and  Ann Tankersley of Knox City; to his sisters, Purlee
   2-22  Braden of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Gladys Baucum of Abilene; to his
   2-23  12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and to the many
   2-24  other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-26  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-27  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-1  Lawrence Mitchell Hall.
