                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the participants of the 1995 MEX-TEX Conference, which will be held
    1-3  during Cinco de Mayo Week, May 3-6, 1995, in Houston; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The conference will provide an outstanding forum for
    1-5  the discussion of public works and infrastructure issues as it
    1-6  brings together governors, mayors, and public works leaders from
    1-7  both sides of the Mexico-Texas border; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, One of the main topics of discussion will be public
    1-9  works projects taking place in the United States, Canada, and
   1-10  Mexico as a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement, and
   1-11  a keynote of the conference will be the proposed Mexico to Canada
   1-12  transportation corridor; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The conference will focus on planning, construction,
   1-14  and maintenance of public works infrastructure, as well as routine
   1-15  management of public works facilities in Mexico and Texas; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Hosted by award-winning City of Houston engineer
   1-17  Jimmie Schindewolf, the event features a number of prominent
   1-18  speakers, including Governor George W. Bush, the governors of the
   1-19  states of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, Mexico, Mayor Bob Lanier of
   1-20  Houston, Mayor Jesus Hinojosa Tijerina of Monterrey, Mexico, Port
   1-21  of Houston managing director George Williamson, and an expert on
   1-22  the proposed superhighways, HNTB Corporation's Richard Ridings; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The conference offers its participants an
   1-24  unparalleled learning opportunity, as public works experts will
    2-1  address several vital issues in "break-out" sessions, including
    2-2  diverse public works technology, market development,
    2-3  communications, environmental mandates, international
    2-4  transportation, and advertising sign ordinances; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Beginning with a colorful "Fiesta en el Mercado,"
    2-6  the conference promises to be a highly informative and memorable
    2-7  event for all participants and will offer a banquet, technical
    2-8  exhibition, lively marching band performances, and a tour of the
    2-9  renowned Houston Ship Channel on the "Sam Houston" yacht; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, The 1995 MEX-TEX Conference provides an exceptional
   2-11  opportunity for leaders on both sides of the Mexico-Texas border to
   2-12  meet and discuss issues vital to the health and prosperity of the
   2-13  region, and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to
   2-14  honor all those associated with the conference for their hard work
   2-15  and dedication; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-17  Legislature hereby honor the 1995 MEX-TEX Conference in Houston and
   2-18  extend to all its participants and organizers best wishes for a
   2-19  productive and enjoyable session; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-21  prepared for the 1995 MEX-TEX Conference as an expression of high
   2-22  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
