                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Evelyn Mina Borchers Randow on March
    1-2  6, 1995, at the age of 71, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this lovable and giving Texan; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The daughter of Emil and Hattie Grolick Borchers,
    1-5  she was born June 24, 1923, on the family's farm near Cordova and
    1-6  excelled in her studies to become salutatorian of her high school
    1-7  class; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A licensed beautician, she met her future husband,
    1-9  Elmer Randow, at a dance in New Braunfels; the pair quickly
   1-10  discovered that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives
   1-11  together, and after a brief courtship, they exchanged their wedding
   1-12  vows on June 21, 1942; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Their early years together were affected by the
   1-14  special demands of World War II; while her husband served in the
   1-15  armed forces, Mrs. Randow contributed greatly to the war effort by
   1-16  packing parachutes and patching the canvas wings of military planes
   1-17  that were damaged in hailstorms; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, When the war ended, the Randows settled into their
   1-19  lives as civilians and devoted themselves to raising their four
   1-20  children and farming; a woman of boundless energies and enthusiasm,
   1-21  Mrs. Randow assisted with a variety of farming and ranching
   1-22  activities throughout the day, and by 11:30 every morning, she also
   1-23  had a delicious lunch prepared for everyone on the farm; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Her bright and cozy kitchen was fondly known as
    2-1  "Grand Central Station," and she delighted her many friends and
    2-2  relatives with her mouthwatering dishes and delectable baked goods;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Mrs. Randow graciously managed the many
    2-5  responsibilities of a working mother, and after doing the
    2-6  bookkeeping for the farm, she often worked late into the night
    2-7  sewing clothes for her children and their dolls; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A woman of warmth and humor, she befriended all who
    2-9  entered the community, and in spite of her physical limitations,
   2-10  she was well regarded throughout the area for her outstanding
   2-11  community involvement; she and her husband Elmer were two of the
   2-12  founders of the York Creek Volunteer Fire Department, donating not
   2-13  only their time and energy, but also the land on which the first
   2-14  fire station was built; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, She further marshaled her unflagging spirit to serve
   2-16  with both the York Creek Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and
   2-17  the Geronimo Fire Department Auxiliary, and she was an ardent
   2-18  supporter of the Staples Community Civic Center and the Hermann
   2-19  Sons of Texas, which honored her with its Humanitarian Award in
   2-20  1994; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, Throughout her many endeavors, she was nourished by
   2-22  a deep and abiding religious faith that she expressed as a lifelong
   2-23  member of Friedens Church, where she generously offered her
   2-24  assistance with vacation Bible school and Sunday school events; and
   2-25        WHEREAS, This lovely and gracious lady touched the lives of
   2-26  many people during her long and fruitful lifetime, and though her
   2-27  special presence will be deeply missed, her memory will endure in
    3-1  the hearts and minds of all those who came to know and love her;
    3-2  now, therefore, be it
    3-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    3-4  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Evelyn Mina Borchers
    3-5  Randow and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:
    3-6  to her beloved husband, Elmer Karl Randow; to her daughters and
    3-7  son-in-law, Pauline Nisbet and Bettye and Curtis Urban; to her sons
    3-8  and daughter-in-law, Gary Randow and Karl Christian and Elaine
    3-9  Randow; to her four grandchildren, Christopher Karl Urban, Forrest
   3-10  and Robert Christian Randow, and Sabrina Frazar; and to her many
   3-11  other friends and relatives; and, be it further
   3-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   3-13  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   3-14  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   3-15  Evelyn Mina Borchers Randow.
