No. 804 74R12414 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Daniel Hernandez is retiring from his position as 1-2 superintendent of the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District, 1-3 thus bringing to a close his distinguished 18-year tenure with that 1-4 school district; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A graduate of Edinburg High School, Mr. Hernandez 1-6 furthered his education at Pan American College, earning a bachelor 1-7 of arts degree in elementary education in 1960; nine years later, 1-8 he received a master's degree in school administration from Texas 1-9 A&I University at Kingsville; and 1-10 WHEREAS, From 1960 to 1976, this esteemed educator worked in 1-11 the Raymondville and La Villa school districts, earning promotion 1-12 to the rank of superintendent of La Villa Independent School 1-13 District in 1969; he has served the Edcouch-Elsa school district 1-14 with integrity and distinction since 1977, and over the years he 1-15 has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues in the 1-16 field of education; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Highly regarded for his experience and leadership 1-18 skills, Mr. Hernandez was chosen by his peers to serve as president 1-19 of the Region One Superintendents' Study Group and as chairman of 1-20 the Teachers Educational and Professional Standards Committee; he 1-21 has contributed his expertise to other professional groups as well, 1-22 including the Texas Association of School Administrators and the 1-23 Teachers' Professional Practices Commission; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Despite his many professional demands, this 2-1 distinguished gentleman has always found time to devote to 2-2 community service; a former president of the Delta Area Rotary 2-3 Club, Mr. Hernandez has offered his guidance and companionship to 2-4 the youth of his community as a scout master and has served his 2-5 church as a lector and Bible class instructor; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Both as an educator and as a civic leader, Daniel 2-7 Hernandez has selflessly dedicated himself to the people of his 2-8 community, and his efforts have improved the lives of countless 2-9 citizens; he has proven himself to be a worthy role model for the 2-10 many young people whose lives he has shaped, and in doing this he 2-11 has exemplified the highest ideals of his profession; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby honor Daniel Hernandez for his many years of 2-15 service to the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District and extend 2-16 to him warmest best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; 2-17 and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of highest regard by 2-20 the Texas House of Representatives.
