                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The DeSoto West Junior High School Band has been
    1-2  named a recipient of the Sudler Cup, a prestigious honor awarded
    1-3  through the John Philip Sousa Foundation; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Sponsored by Louis and Virginia Sudler, the Sudler
    1-5  Cup was established to recognize junior high school and middle
    1-6  school band programs that have demonstrated exemplary standards of
    1-7  excellence over a period of several years; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Only 19 bands have received the Sudler Cup during
    1-9  the award's 10-year history, and by attaining such a distinction
   1-10  the DeSoto West Junior High School Band has achieved a truly
   1-11  remarkable feat; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The band's accomplished director, Benny Davis, has
   1-13  consistently inspired his young musicians to perform at the highest
   1-14  level, and for his vital role in winning the Sudler Cup, his name,
   1-15  along with that of the school, will be engraved on the silver cup's
   1-16  base; also, each band member will receive a handsome individualized
   1-17  diploma as a fitting memento of the group's notable accomplishment;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The band and its director are a  source of great
   1-20  pride to the students and faculty of DeSoto West Junior High
   1-21  School, and this exciting acknowledgment of their talent is indeed
   1-22  worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   1-24  Legislature hereby congratulate the DeSoto West Junior High School
    2-1  Band on being designated a recipient of the Sudler Cup by the John
    2-2  Philip Sousa Foundation; and, be it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for the band's director and members as an expression of
    2-5  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
