No. 817 74R11740 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans 1-2 who have shared half a century of matrimonial happiness is indeed a 1-3 joyous occasion worthy of legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Drummond of Midland recently 1-5 celebrated one such special occasion in their lives at a golden 1-6 wedding anniversary reception hosted by their children and 1-7 grandchildren at the Primitive Baptist Church; Stella Shattuck May, 1-8 the sister of Mrs. Drummond, also was able to attend this memorable 1-9 event and to share in the wealth of good feelings that abounded on 1-10 this wonderful day; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Corporal Robert Drummond took the former Nelle 1-12 Shattuck as his bride on May 12, 1945, in a ceremony that was held 1-13 at the home of her parents in Midland; the newlyweds spent several 1-14 blissful months together in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where Corporal 1-15 Drummond was stationed in the Army Air Force, before he was 1-16 assigned overseas; and 1-17 WHEREAS, After Mr. Drummond completed his active duty at 1-18 Schemya Air Force Base in Alaska, the couple returned to Midland, 1-19 where they had strong ties to the community, both having graduated 1-20 from Midland High School, and they soon decided to make this 1-21 thriving West Texas community their lifelong home; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A semiretired master plumber, Mr. Drummond owned and 1-23 operated a major plumbing repair business for many years, and he 1-24 has long been active in civic affairs as a leader in the Westside 2-1 Lions Club, which he currently serves as secretary; his gracious 2-2 wife devoted herself to raising their family and maintaining their 2-3 home throughout their marriage and, despite her busy schedule, she 2-4 also has found time to benefit her community through her leadership 2-5 as a two-term president and longtime member of the Lioness 700 2-6 Club; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The couple are the proud parents of three children, 2-8 and in recent years their close-knit family has grown to include 2-9 six delightful grandchildren, who are a source of unending joy to 2-10 their grandparents; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The couple are cherished members of the Primitive 2-12 Baptist Church, where Mr. Drummond has served as a deacon since 2-13 1951; over the years, they also have displayed a strong commitment 2-14 to their family and the community at large through their 2-15 participation in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and the Midland High 2-16 School Choir Boosters; and 2-17 WHEREAS, For half a century, Robert and Nelle Drummond have 2-18 enjoyed a warm and affectionate union filled with many happy times 2-19 and cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of love, 2-20 trust, and support, their marriage has indeed been an inspiration 2-21 to the many friends and relatives of this fortunate pair; now, 2-22 therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Robert and Nelle Drummond on the 2-25 momentous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to 2-26 them warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-27 years to come; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Drummond as an expression of highest 3-3 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
