                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, For half a century, Bevil Lindsey has devoted
    1-2  himself to enriching and challenging young minds, and the citizens
    1-3  of Silsbee will honor him for his remarkable record of service at a
    1-4  reception in his honor on May 10, 1995; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University
    1-6  with both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education,
    1-7  this esteemed gentleman has made numerous contributions to the
    1-8  Silsbee Independent School District and the Hardin County
    1-9  community, and in the process, he has become an outstanding role
   1-10  model for his students and an inspiration to his colleagues; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, He organized the county's first all-girl drill team
   1-12  in the early 1950s, and in the next decade he wrote and produced
   1-13  May Fetes programs, which included performances by the school band
   1-14  and choir and all students from the first through 12th grades; he
   1-15  also organized an innovative exchange program between the
   1-16  eighth-grade civics class and the state's School for the Deaf in
   1-17  Austin, thus enabling hearing and nonhearing students to interact
   1-18  and broaden their understanding of each other; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, For these and other achievements, he has earned
   1-20  special recognition from Governor Beauford Jester, Texas House
   1-21  Speaker Price Daniel, Governor Allan Shivers, and Governor William
   1-22  P. Clements; a former finalist for the title of Texas Teacher of
   1-23  the Year, this admired educator received the District Five Texas
   1-24  Association of Secondary School Principals Award for Outstanding
    2-1  Teaching in 1988, and he was named Teacher of the Year for
    2-2  1981-1982 by the Silsbee Parent Teachers Association; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Education has played a tremendous role in
    2-4  Mr. Lindsey's private life as well, since both his wife, Carolyn
    2-5  Lindsey, and his daughter, Donna Lindsey Jackson, are also
    2-6  teachers, and together this remarkable family has contributed
    2-7  nearly a century of service to the field of education; in recent
    2-8  years, the family has grown to include Donna's husband, Donald
    2-9  Jackson, and grandchildren Trey, Matthew, Bradley, and Nicole; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, At the age of 70, Mr. Lindsey has no plans to
   2-11  retire, so young Texans will continue to benefit from his wisdom,
   2-12  enthusiasm, and experience for many years to come; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Bevil Lindsey truly embodies the spirit of service
   2-14  and dedication to learning that is the hallmark of a great teacher;
   2-15  he has made a real and lasting difference in the lives of his many
   2-16  students, and the success of those students is perhaps the greatest
   2-17  testimonial that any teacher can receive; now, therefore, be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-19  Legislature hereby honor Bevil Lindsey as he commemorates his 50th
   2-20  year in the teaching profession and extend to him warmest best
   2-21  wishes for many more years of continued success and happiness; and,
   2-22  be it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-24  prepared for Mr. Lindsey as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-25  Texas House of Representatives.
