                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The 60th wedding anniversary of two outstanding
    1-2  Texans is truly a joyous occasion worthy of special legislative
    1-3  recognition; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Katherine and Lawrence Milner recently celebrated 60
    1-5  marvelous years together as husband and wife at a reception held in
    1-6  their honor at the Goose Creek Country Club in Baytown by their
    1-7  children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which drew some
    1-8  200 family members and friends who gathered to share food, song,
    1-9  and remembrances with this extraordinary couple; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The reception was a dazzling affair that featured
   1-11  gifts commemorating the couple's life together, a wedding cake
   1-12  decorated with fresh flowers, and performances of romantic songs by
   1-13  the Milners' guests, including the classic "Stardust," which was
   1-14  sung by the couple's grandson William Brizzolara; the couple also
   1-15  received many cards and greetings from friends and well-wishers,
   1-16  including President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham
   1-17  Clinton and Governor and Mrs. George W. Bush; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Milner both hail from the town of Ennis
   1-19  where they spent their formative years and were graduated from
   1-20  Ennis High School; a noted athlete and football star in high
   1-21  school, Mr. Milner took the former Katherine Reed as his bride in a
   1-22  ceremony performed in their hometown on March 23, 1935, by Reverend
   1-23  Clyde Hankins; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, After the wedding, the couple settled in Baytown and
    2-1  joined the Memorial Baptist Church, where they have been cherished
    2-2  members of the congregation for the past 60 years; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Retired from a rewarding career with the Exxon
    2-4  Corporation, Mr. Milner enjoys gardening, golf, and virtually any
    2-5  pastime that involves sports, while his charming wife, who is
    2-6  equally active in her retirement from her career with Baytown
    2-7  Hospital, devotes her time to an assortment of favorite hobbies
    2-8  that include baseball, crossword puzzles, and planning family
    2-9  get-togethers; the pair are active members of the Exxon Annuitants,
   2-10  an organization Mr. Milner has served as a 12-year member of its
   2-11  board of directors, and they also belong to the Memorial Baptist
   2-12  Triple L Club for Senior Citizens; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, The Milners are the proud parents of three
   2-14  daughters, Yvonne Kitchel, Dianne Brizzolara, and Jerri Copeland,
   2-15  all of whom have families of their own and reside nearby and, in
   2-16  recent years, their loving family has grown to include many
   2-17  grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
   2-18        WHEREAS, For more than half a century, Lawrence and Katherine
   2-19  Milner have enjoyed a warm and affectionate union filled with many
   2-20  happy times and cherished family memories; built on a solid
   2-21  foundation of mutual love, trust, and support, their marriage has
   2-22  indeed been a source of inspiration to the many friends and
   2-23  relatives of this fortunate pair; now, therefore, be it
   2-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-25  Legislature hereby congratulate Lawrence and Katherine Milner on
   2-26  the momentous occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and extend
   2-27  warmest best wishes to them for continued happiness in the years to
    3-1  come; and, be it further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Milner as an expression of highest regard
    3-4  by the Texas House of Representatives.
