H.R. No. 835 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Harlan Bruha is retiring from his position as 1-2 director of the Angelo State University Small Business Development 1-3 Center on July 31, 1995, bringing to a close an outstanding tenure 1-4 in that capacity; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Wisconsin, Mr. Bruha earned his 1-6 bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin and continued his 1-7 higher education at Kent State University, where he attained his 1-8 master's degree; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Air Force and 1-10 served his nation with distinction for 25 years in such varied and 1-11 demanding capacities as commander of the U.S. Air Force School of 1-12 Cryptologic Sciences, chief of training for the U.S. Military 1-13 Assistance Command in Thailand, and commander of the 6940th 1-14 technical training group at Goodfellow Air Force Base; for his 1-15 outstanding accomplishments while in the service, he was awarded 12 1-16 decorations, including the Legion of Merit, and ascended to the 1-17 rank of colonel; and 1-18 WHEREAS, From 1977 to 1982 Mr. Bruha owned and operated the 1-19 Colonel's Pipe Shop in San Angelo and brought to that enterprise 1-20 the same dedication and professionalism that have been the hallmark 1-21 of all his many efforts; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In 1982 he joined the faculty of the business 1-23 administration department at Angelo State University and became the 1-24 director of the Angelo State University Small Business Institute, 2-1 an organization that provides information, research, and direction 2-2 to small businesses in the San Angelo area through analysis, 2-3 technical assistance, and computer support; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Bruha was instrumental in earning the Angelo 2-5 State University Small Business Institute national recognition for 2-6 its innovative case studies and, in recognition of his superb 2-7 guidance and leadership, he was chosen to receive the Showcase 2-8 Award by the Small Business Directors' Association; and 2-9 WHEREAS, On the homefront, this fine gentleman has been 2-10 supported in all his endeavors by his devoted wife, Carryole, and 2-11 the couple are the proud parents of two sons; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Bruha's sterling service to his community and 2-13 nation has been a source of inspiration to all who have had the 2-14 pleasure of knowing him, and he can indeed look back with 2-15 tremendous pride and satisfaction on his many accomplishments; now, 2-16 therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby commend Harlan Bruha for his exceptional 2-19 contributions to his community as director of the Angelo State 2-20 University Small Business Development Center and extend sincere 2-21 best wishes to him for continued success and happiness in the 2-22 future; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-24 prepared for Mr. Bruha as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-25 House of Representatives.
