                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, On May 14, 1995, Lucile and John Bohannon of Ozona
    1-2  will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary, having fully tested
    1-3  and proven that a pampered doctor's daughter and a hardworking
    1-4  country boy truly can find happiness together despite the
    1-5  disparities inherent in their formative years; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A native of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Mr. Bohannon was born
    1-7  on January 22, 1909, and moved in his youth to Texas, where he
    1-8  lived on a farm near Goldthwaite; as a young man, he attended
    1-9  Daniel Baker College, where he not only received an education but
   1-10  met his future bride, the lovely young Lucile Mayo; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The former Miss Mayo was born in Elgin on May 9,
   1-12  1911, and spent her early childhood in Belton before she moved with
   1-13  her family to Brownwood at the age of seven; the daughter of a
   1-14  respected physician in the community, she attended Howard Payne
   1-15  College but, as fate would have it, her best friend, Anna Belle
   1-16  Miller, was a student at Daniel Baker College, where she introduced
   1-17  Lucile to J. E. Bohannon, as he was known at the time; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, One fateful night, at a pep rally at Daniel Baker
   1-19  College, "J. E."  spotted the object of his affection and, though
   1-20  Lucile was sitting with another young man at the time, he joined
   1-21  the pair and, after Lucile's friend left in a huff, Mr. Bohannon
   1-22  kindly escorted the young lady home in an act of true gallantry;
   1-23  and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Soon the young couple were in love but their
    2-1  relationship was frowned on by Dr. Mayo, who refused to let his
    2-2  daughter date a "poor farm boy"; as it became one of the only
    2-3  avenues by which he could see his sweetheart, J.  E. suddenly
    2-4  became a devout member of the congregation at the Christian Church
    2-5  in Brownwood, where he was able to sit and share a hymnbook with
    2-6  Lucile; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Determined to be wed, the couple attempted to elope
    2-8  on May 14, 1930, but their plans were thwarted by the minister who,
    2-9  instead of marrying them, called Lucile's parents; after realizing
   2-10  the futility of trying to stand in their way, Dr. and Mrs. Mayo
   2-11  relented and the pair were married in the home of her parents that
   2-12  same day; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Bohannon more than made up
   2-14  for her pampered youth, becoming the beloved mother of three
   2-15  children as well as the chief cook, housekeeper, scraped knee
   2-16  healer, and feeling soother for her active household, while her
   2-17  devoted husband worked hard in the oil fields in a career that
   2-18  necessitated frequent moves by the family; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, Offered a desk job in Dallas that he believes
   2-20  brought on his mild heart attack, Mr. Bohannon returned to the
   2-21  fast-paced outdoor work he knew best and the couple moved in 1966
   2-22  to Ozona, where he accepted a position with Suburban Oil and Gas
   2-23  Company, which he retired from in 1975 though he remained a
   2-24  petroleum consultant until 1993; and
   2-25        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Bohannon are now enjoying their
   2-26  retirement years together with Mrs. Bohannon remaining active in
   2-27  the Daughters of the American Revolution and her husband continuing
    3-1  to stay involved in the local Masonic Lodge; faithful members of
    3-2  the United Methodist Church of Ozona, they also take great pleasure
    3-3  in visiting with the members of their close-knit family, which
    3-4  includes their daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Sammy Martin
    3-5  and Mary Sue and Howard Gill; their son and daughter-in-law, John
    3-6  and Mary Bohannon; and their nine grandchildren and five
    3-7  great-grandchildren; and
    3-8        WHEREAS, For 65 years, John and Lucile Bohannon have shared a
    3-9  strong and lasting marriage filled with many happy times and
   3-10  cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of mutual
   3-11  love, trust, and support, their life together has indeed been a
   3-12  source of joy and inspiration for the many friends and relatives of
   3-13  this fortunate pair; now, therefore, be it
   3-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   3-15  Legislature hereby congratulate John and Lucile Bohannon on the
   3-16  momentous occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary and extend to
   3-17  them warmest best wishes for continued happiness in the future;
   3-18  and, be it further
   3-19        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   3-20  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Bohannon as an expression of highest
   3-21  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
