No. 840 74R12563 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, America's National Park System represents one of our 1-2 nation's most treasured resources, providing all of its citizens 1-3 access to unsurpassed natural splendor and opportunities to engage 1-4 in a variety of outdoor recreational activities in their midst; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The National Park Service exists to preserve for 1-6 future generations of Americans these superlative landscapes, whose 1-7 scenic, scientific, cultural, and recreational significance is 1-8 truly beyond measure; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The State of Texas boasts 13 designated national 1-10 park areas that not only encompass the magnificent variety of 1-11 terrain, flora, and fauna with which our state is blessed, but also 1-12 include sites of considerable historical significance as well; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Located within the boundaries of our state are the 1-14 Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument, the Amistad National 1-15 Recreation Area, Big Bend National Park, the Big Thicket National 1-16 Preserve, the Chamizal National Memorial, the Fort Davis National 1-17 Historic Site, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, the Lake Meredith 1-18 National Recreation Area, the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical 1-19 Park, the Padre Island National Seashore, the Palo Alto Battlefield 1-20 National Historic Site, the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River, and 1-21 the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, each of which 1-22 offers visitors a unique understanding of and appreciation for 1-23 those places and events that have defined us as Texans; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Our country's national parks maintain for the 2-1 enjoyment of all Americans the vast and majestic wilderness that 2-2 both inspired and challenged our forebears, and it is indeed 2-3 appropriate that this week be set aside to enjoy and pay tribute to 2-4 this vital aspect of our national heritage; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby recognize May 22-28, 1995, as National Park 2-7 Week in the State of Texas and encourage all Texans to visit and 2-8 enjoy these havens of natural grandeur.
