H.R. No. 844 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Marguerite J. Johnson will retire as principal of 1-2 Morningside Elementary School on May 31, 1995, drawing to a close 1-3 an exceptional career in the field of public education that has 1-4 spanned more than 40 years; her colleagues, friends, and relatives 1-5 will gather to commemorate her many years of outstanding service at 1-6 a reception in her honor on May 21, 1995; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The daughter of Alton and Rosie Walls, she was born 1-8 January 1, 1932, in Goliad County, and she graduated from Fort 1-9 Worth's I. M. Terrell High School before earning an undergraduate 1-10 degree from Samuel Huston College in 1952; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson began her teaching career with the 1-12 Arlington Independent School District, where she faithfully served 1-13 the schoolchildren of the community for four years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, She then embarked on a deeply fulfilling 36-year 1-15 association with the Fort Worth Independent School District; she 1-16 initially served as a substitute teacher at East Van Zandt 1-17 Elementary School and became one of the school's full-time faculty 1-18 one year later; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her chosen profession, she 1-20 marshalled her formidable energy and spirit to continue her studies 1-21 during this period, and she was rewarded for her efforts when she 1-22 earned a master's degree from the University of North Texas in 1-23 1959; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Mrs. Johnson 2-1 has been well regarded by colleagues and students alike for her 2-2 professionalism, dedication, and hard work, and she has shared her 2-3 enthusiasm and knowledge with children at R. Vickery Elementary 2-4 School and Atwood McDonald Elementary School in the course of her 2-5 many years of exemplary service as a classroom teacher; and 2-6 WHEREAS, A capable and effective administrator as well, she 2-7 distinguished herself as principal of Oaklawn Elementary School 2-8 before becoming principal of Morningside Elementary School, where 2-9 she has had a positive impact on the lives of countless children 2-10 for the past nine years; and 2-11 WHEREAS, This remarkable lady has served as an inspiring role 2-12 model to countless Texas youths as a teacher and school 2-13 administrator, and her exceptional commitment to the children of 2-14 this state is indeed deserving of special recognition; now, 2-15 therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby honor Marguerite J. Johnson for her outstanding 2-18 service as an educator and extend to her best wishes for a happy 2-19 and rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for Mrs. Johnson as an expression of high regard by the 2-22 Texas House of Representatives.
