H.R. No. 846 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Clements Senior High School Concert Band has 1-2 been chosen to receive the Sudler Flag of Honor, a prestigious 1-3 accolade awarded through the John Philip Sousa Foundation; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Louis and Virginia Sudler, the Flag of 1-5 Honor award was established to recognize high school concert band 1-6 programs that have demonstrated exemplary standards of excellence 1-7 in concert activities over a period of several years; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Only 31 concert bands have received the Sudler Flag 1-9 of Honor since the award was established 13 years ago and by 1-10 attaining such a distinction, the Clements Senior High School 1-11 Concert Band has truly achieved a remarkable feat; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The band's dedicated director Larry Matysiak has 1-13 inspired his young musicians to perform at the highest level, and 1-14 for his vital role in winning the Sudler Flag of Honor, 1-15 Mr. Matysiak will receive an engraved plaque; a red, white, and 1-16 blue flag will be awarded to the band as a memento of its superb 1-17 accomplishment, and each band member also will receive an 1-18 individualized diploma; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The Sudler Flag of Honor also carries with it the 1-20 singular distinction of including each winning concert band in the 1-21 Sousa Foundation's Historic Roll of Honor, which recognizes 1-22 outstanding high school concert bands of the 20th century; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The members of the Clements Senior High School 1-24 Concert Band are a tremendous source of pride to the students and 2-1 faculty of their school and this well-deserved acknowledgement of 2-2 their superb talent is truly worthy of special legislative 2-3 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate the Clements Senior High School 2-6 Concert Band on being designated a recipient of the Sudler Flag of 2-7 Honor by the John Philip Sousa Foundation; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the band and its director as an expression of high 2-10 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
