                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The city of Stamford, like all cities across our
    1-2  state and nation, lost many fine young men during the course of
    1-3  World War II, and it was the willingness of these brave soldiers to
    1-4  make any sacrifice necessary for the cause of liberty that enabled
    1-5  our country to survive with the many freedoms we cherish today
    1-6  still intact; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the
    1-8  conclusion of this momentous conflict, and the victory that was so
    1-9  dearly bought by the men and women of our armed services and other
   1-10  Allied forces remains to many the single most significant event of
   1-11  the 20th century; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The courageous men of Stamford who lost their lives
   1-13  fighting for freedom during the course of World War II include:
   1-14  Herman Hilscher, Otto Mueller, John Reves, Joseph McKennon, J. A.
   1-15  White, Bill Miller, Fred Barr, Kenneth Edge, Gordon Haynes, Jr.,
   1-16  George Elliott, Wade Fourqurean, Jack French, Harold Ekenstam,
   1-17  James Franks, Carl Greenhaw, Tommy Griggs, James Jones, Joseph
   1-18  Jones, George King, Dayton Masters, Frank Matecha, Jr., Fred
   1-19  McBride, Shappard McLemore, F. A. Risley, Garland Monzingo, Linwood
   1-20  Moore, G. W. Rivers, Jr., Herman Plumlee, Willie Stremmel, Earnest
   1-21  Wadzeck, Amador Quintanilla, Billy Trimmier, L. A. Wendeborn, Alvin
   1-22  Young, Horace Weeks, Frank Rye, and Earl Russell; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, On July 1, 1995, a ceremony will be held at the
   1-24  World War II Memorial on the Stamford town square to commemorate
    2-1  the war's conclusion and to honor the memory of those men who gave
    2-2  their life's blood to secure final victory for their nation; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, History has shown repeatedly that our democracy is
    2-4  only as strong as those valiant individuals on whom we rely to
    2-5  protect it; the sacrifices of the servicemen who fought and died in
    2-6  World War II remain undiminished by the passage of time, and it is
    2-7  fitting that those men be honored as we commemorate the 50th
    2-8  anniversary of the conclusion of World War II; now, therefore, be
    2-9  it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby pay homage to the brave U.S. soldiers from the
   2-12  city of Stamford who lost their lives in defense of their nation
   2-13  during World War II; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for the city of Stamford by the Texas House of
   2-16  Representatives in commemoration of the tribute being held by the
   2-17  community to honor its World War II veterans.
