No. 856 74R12556 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Tom Smith on May 1, 1995, at the age 1-2 of 49, has brought a great loss to the many friends and relatives 1-3 of this distinguished gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The son of William Pickens and Gladys Fleming Smith, 1-5 Mr. Smith was born September 30, 1945, in Houston and was graduated 1-6 from the Hermann Hospital School of Nursing; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A pioneer in the air medical industry, he was one of 1-8 the first individuals involved with Hermann Hospital's Life Flight 1-9 program, and over the years he worked tirelessly to help the 1-10 emergency air medical program to achieve the success that it has 1-11 today; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Well regarded throughout his chosen profession, 1-13 Mr. Smith also made many significant contributions to the medical 1-14 field as an active member of the National Flight Nurses 1-15 Association; and 1-16 WHEREAS, He enjoyed a full and active life and was deeply 1-17 devoted to his family and many friends, and he always made time in 1-18 his busy day to offer fellowship to others; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A man of great vision, Mr. Smith devoted much of his 1-20 life to serving the needs of his community; though his special 1-21 presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his unique 1-22 spirit will surely live on in the hearts and minds of the many 1-23 people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tom Smith and extend 2-2 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife 2-3 of 27 years, Irene Cleveland Smith; to his daughters, Andrea Smith 2-4 and Erica Smith; to his mother, Gladys Fleming Smith; to his 2-5 sister, Aline Holland; to his nieces, Connie Cuoco and Dawn Huet; 2-6 to his great-niece, Tiffany Huet; and to his many other friends and 2-7 relatives; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-11 Tom Smith.
