                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Sister Nancy Koke will retire from her position as
    1-2  principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe School on June 30, 1995, and her
    1-3  many contributions to the community and to the Our Lady of
    1-4  Guadalupe parish will be greatly missed; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Sister
    1-6  Nancy has served as principal of that fine school since August 1,
    1-7  1988, and in that time she has endeared herself to students and
    1-8  parishioners alike by unselfishly giving of her time and effort;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, She has encouraged greater parental involvement in
   1-11  the educational process by organizing and participating in the
   1-12  activities of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parent Council, and by
   1-13  treating parents as partners in their children's education, she has
   1-14  ensured that academic success will follow the children throughout
   1-15  their lives; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Working with the devoted faculty of the school, she
   1-17  has continually improved its educational standards in all areas,
   1-18  and in the process, she has earned the love and respect of the many
   1-19  children whose lives she has touched; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Furthermore, she has reached beyond the walls of the
   1-21  classroom and into the community to positively affect the lives of
   1-22  her young charges, and she has helped to raise the consciousness of
   1-23  the entire Houston community about the needs of inner-city Hispanic
   1-24  students; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The Bible speaks of Christ's love for children, and
    2-2  the example of compassion and nurturing that He set has been
    2-3  admirably emulated by Sister Nancy; her concern and caring for
    2-4  God's most vulnerable creatures has ensured a brighter future for
    2-5  countless students, and her dedication to her church, to her
    2-6  school, and to her community is indeed deserving of highest praise
    2-7  and recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby honor Sister Nancy Koke for her outstanding
   2-10  service and declare May 10, 1995, to be Sister Nancy Day in the
   2-11  State of Texas in honor of her many contributions to the Houston
   2-12  community; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for Sister Nancy Koke as an expression of highest regard
   2-15  by the Texas House of Representatives.
