No. 865 74R9950 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Juana Chavez Jiner on October 24, 1-2 1994, at the age of 91, has deeply saddened the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this gracious citizen of Alpine; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jiner was born November 2, 1902, in the tiny 1-5 community of Casa Piedra, which lies in the rugged country west of 1-6 Big Bend in Presidio County; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she and her 1-8 husband, Mariano Jiner, were blessed with four beloved children; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Though she was widowed in 1976, Mrs. Jiner always 1-11 enjoyed the support and affection of her loved ones and watched 1-12 with pride as her close-knit family grew to include a host of 1-13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A woman who espoused deep religious principles, 1-15 Mrs. Jiner was a faithful member of the local Catholic church, 1-16 where she was cherished by her fellow parishioners; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Throughout her long and fulfilling life, Juana 1-18 Chavez Jiner witnessed nearly a century of change take place in our 1-19 country while serving as a positive influence to many people whose 1-20 lives she touched with her enduring compassion, strength, and 1-21 integrity; though she is gone from us now, the memory of this 1-22 remarkable woman will remain an inspiration to all those who were 1-23 fortunate to have known her; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Juana Chavez Jiner 2-2 and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-3 daughters, Celia Jiner Valdez of Alpine, Lucile Contreras of San 2-4 Antonio, and Adela Jiner Cavender of Marfa; to her sister, Jesus 2-5 Quintana of Lubbock; to her 11 grandchildren and 11 2-6 great-grandchildren; and to the many other friends and relatives of 2-7 this lovely woman; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-11 Juana Chavez Jiner.
