R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Henry DeLaO on October 23, 1994, at
1-2 the age of 67, brought great sadness to the many friends and
1-3 relatives of this esteemed citizen of Alpine; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Bronte, Mr. DeLaO was born in 1927 and
1-5 moved in his youth to Alpine, where he owned and operated a local
1-6 service station for more than three decades; his establishment was
1-7 a favorite landmark for local residents who would stop by regularly
1-8 to chat and refuel, and it also served as a welcome sight in this
1-9 remote area to many visitors traveling to and from nearby Big Bend
1-10 National Park; and
1-11 WHEREAS, This remarkable gentleman was a staunch patriot and
1-12 a distinguished Navy veteran who placed a high value on the
1-13 military service of his fellow veterans to our country as a loyal
1-14 member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion; a
1-15 man of deep religious convictions as well, he maintained his strong
1-16 devotion to God as a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church;
1-17 and
1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. DeLaO was above all dedicated to the needs of
1-19 his close-knit family, to whom he served as a constant source of
1-20 support, guidance, and inspiration; in recent years, the DeLaO
1-21 family grew to include 17 grandchildren who brought great joy to
1-22 their grandfather with their exploits and achievements; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Much loved by the residents of his community, Henry
1-24 DeLaO touched the lives of many people during his years on this
2-1 earth and will long be remembered in the Alpine community for his
2-2 warmth, integrity, and concern for his fellowman; now, therefore,
2-3 be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Henry DeLaO and
2-6 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
2-7 Esperanza DeLaO; to his daughters, Olga DeLaO and Melba D. Cobos;
2-8 to his sons, Henry, Jr., Danny, Ricky, Glenn, and Hector DeLaO; to
2-9 his mother, Manuela DeLaO; to his sister, Frances Rios; to his
2-10 brothers, Frank, Pete, and Joe DeLaO; to his 17 grandchildren; and
2-11 to the many other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be
2-12 it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-15 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Henry
2-16 DeLaO.
