                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The North Shore High School 400-meter relay team has
    1-2  achieved a truly remarkable feat by qualifying for competition in
    1-3  the 1995 state championship tournament; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, At the Class 5A Region III finals, this determined
    1-5  group of young women turned in a stellar performance in their
    1-6  event, earning the right to represent their school at the state
    1-7  tournament in Austin; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, In order to compete at the highest level, relay team
    1-9  members must possess outstanding individual athletic ability,
   1-10  split-second timing when passing the baton from runner to runner,
   1-11  and an unselfish dedication to the concept of teamwork; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The team's outstanding success was a result of
   1-13  significant contributions from members Dinah Smiley, Briana
   1-14  Roberts, Takesha Williams, Kimberly McGruder, and Tarah Maxwell;
   1-15  and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Kimberly McGruder, who is defending state champion
   1-17  in both the 100-meter and the 200-meter events and who holds the
   1-18  state record in 100 meters, not only ran the anchor leg for the
   1-19  North Shore relay team but also easily outdistanced her competition
   1-20  to qualify for the right to defend her twin titles at the 1995
   1-21  state championships; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Head coach Michael L. Purvis has labored tirelessly
   1-23  to school his young charges in the finer aspects of their sport,
   1-24  and he has been ably supported in his efforts by assistant coaches
    2-1  Paula Phillips and Tom Blanchard; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, These exceptional student-athletes are a source of
    2-3  great pride to the students and faculty of North Shore High School
    2-4  as well as to their supporters in the community, and their superb
    2-5  achievements are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;
    2-6  now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby congratulate the North Shore High School
    2-9  400-meter relay team on qualifying for competition in the state
   2-10  tournament and extend to team members and their coaches best wishes
   2-11  for success in all future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for the relay team members, for their coaching staff, and
   2-14  for prominent display at North Shore High School as an expression
   2-15  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
