H.R. No. 889 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Derek Harrison on April 3, 1-2 1995, has brought a great loss to the many friends and relatives of 1-3 this inspirational Corpus Christi resident; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Kingsville, Mr. Harrison was graduated 1-5 from H. M. King High School, where he was an exceptional football 1-6 player; he began his higher education at Baylor University but 1-7 transferred to Texas A&M University to pursue his studies in the 1-8 field of engineering; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison was stricken with Hodgkins disease but 1-10 exhibited rare courage and determination in overcoming that 1-11 life-threatening illness; he then became a volunteer at the Corpus 1-12 Christi Metro Chapter of the American Cancer Society, sharing with 1-13 cancer patients the boundless determination and positive outlook 1-14 that had enabled his own recovery; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A valued employee at the Rossler Company, 1-16 Mr. Harrison was a highly motivated worker who applied his finest 1-17 efforts to whatever tasks were given him, and his exemplary 1-18 professionalism served as a constant inspiration to all others; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Derek Harrison was a man of rare integrity and 1-20 dedication; although his generosity and wisdom are gone from us 1-21 now, his remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the 1-22 many people whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; 1-23 now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Derek Harrrison and 2-2 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-3 beloved wife, Shelbie; to his parents, Clarence and Hesta Harrison; 2-4 to his sister, Lisa Smith; to his grandmother, Ruby Harrison; and 2-5 to the many other relatives and friends of this admirable man; and, 2-6 be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-8 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-9 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Derek 2-10 Harrison.
