R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of James C. Sargent of Lampasas, at the
1-2 age of 73, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
1-3 relatives of this distinguished Texan; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The son of Ode and Ollie Sargent, Mr. Sargent was
1-5 born September 4, 1921, in the community of Bend; like many others
1-6 of his generation, he was a dutiful and patriotic man who served
1-7 his country during World War II as a member of the United States
1-8 Army Air Corps, serving as a navigator and pilot in the North
1-9 African theater; and
1-10 WHEREAS, He was well regarded throughout the Lampasas
1-11 community for his successful career as a pharmacist, and for more
1-12 than 20 years, he was the co-owner of Terry Pharmacy; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Sargent led a full and active life and enjoyed
1-14 the close friendships he formed as an esteemed member of the Lometa
1-15 Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church; and
1-16 WHEREAS, This exceptional gentleman touched the lives of many
1-17 people during his lifetime and, though his presence will be deeply
1-18 missed, his memory will endure in the hearts and minds of those who
1-19 came to know and love him; now, therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James C. Sargent and
1-22 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
1-23 beloved wife of many years, Jean Smith Sargent; to his two sons,
1-24 Jim Sargent and Gordon Sargent; to his daughter, Betsy Matheson; to
2-1 his three grandchildren, Lafe Sargent, Blandi Sargent, and Jake
2-2 Matheson; and to his many other friends and relatives; and, be it
2-3 further
2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-5 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-6 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-7 James C. Sargent.
