R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of Armando G. Figueroa
1-2 have suffered a great loss with the passing of this distinguished
1-3 Del Rio businessman and entrepreneur on May 1, 1993, at the age of
1-4 77; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Coahuila, Mexico, Mr. Figueroa lived in
1-6 Ciudad Acuna before coming to the United States in 1923; he and his
1-7 wife, Flavia, married in Del Rio in 1939, and they lived in
1-8 California for many years before returning to Texas in 1966; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Once the family settled in Del Rio, Mr. Figueroa
1-10 began a successful meat-packing venture that he managed for 18
1-11 years; well known throughout the community for his industrious
1-12 nature and keen business sense, he was also a real estate broker
1-13 and a founding director of the American Bank of Commerce in Del
1-14 Rio; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Figueroa did not allow his many business
1-16 interests to eclipse his dedication to civic service; a board
1-17 member of both the Middle Rio Grande Development Council and the
1-18 Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, he was an esteemed member of the
1-19 International Good Neighbor Council and served as a governor's
1-20 appointee to the Medicare/Medicaid Task Force; and
1-21 WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Figueroa was a visionary inventor,
1-22 and despite his busy schedule, he always found time to spend in his
1-23 workshop perfecting his assortment of innovative and unique
1-24 creations; and
2-1 WHEREAS, Armando G. Figueroa set a fine example of hard work
2-2 and community leadership for others to follow, and his many
2-3 contributions to the city of Del Rio will not soon be forgotten;
2-4 although his presence is gone from us now, his unique spirit will
2-5 live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched;
2-6 now, therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Armando G. Figueroa
2-9 and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-10 wife, Flavia A. Figueroa; to his daughters, Mrs. James L. Weaver
2-11 and Wilma Dawson; to his son, Francisco Armando Figueroa; to his
2-12 sisters, Eva F. Guarnero, Elisa Figueroa, and Olimpia F. Rodriguez;
2-13 to his grandchildren, Matthew R. Dixon, Mrs. Keith Penson, Derek
2-14 Armando Figueroa, Maria Elena Dawson, Adam Joseph Figueroa, and
2-15 Christopher James Weaver; to his great-grandchild, Nolan Ross
2-16 Dixon; and to all the relatives and friends of this beloved
2-17 gentleman; and, be it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-21 Armando G. Figueroa.
