                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Daniel Ray Stacy on October 27, 1994,
    1-2  at the age of 63, has brought a great loss to the many friends,
    1-3  relatives, and colleagues of this distinguished Texan; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The son of Melvin Daniel Stacy and Esther Powe
    1-5  Stacy, this outstanding educator and community leader was born on
    1-6  July 4, 1931, in Ballinger; a graduate of McCamey High School,
    1-7  Mr. Stacy attended and received music scholarships from
    1-8  Hardin-Simmons University, San Angelo State University, and Texas
    1-9  A&I University before completing his master's degree in music
   1-10  education at the University of North Texas in Denton; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After achieving both academic and musical success as
   1-12  a student, Mr. Stacy turned his attention toward the service of his
   1-13  country and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving with
   1-14  honor and distinction for four years as a bandsman before moving
   1-15  back to Texas to embark on a successful career in music education;
   1-16  initially the junior high band director in Falfurrias, this
   1-17  remarkable gentleman then returned to his roots in West Texas to
   1-18  serve as band director at Iraan High School, a position he held
   1-19  until 1975; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, From his work with young musicians, Mr. Stacy
   1-21  realized that there was a real need for guidance and encouragement
   1-22  in the lives of his students and successfully completed his
   1-23  certification in counseling; he then applied his talents toward
   1-24  serving as a counselor with the Iraan-Sheffield Independent School
    2-1  District, winning the respect and admiration of students and
    2-2  colleagues alike for the compassion, integrity, and dedication he
    2-3  brought to his work each day; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Following his retirement in 1991, Mr. Stacy started
    2-5  his own business and worked as an independent producer in the oil
    2-6  fields outside Iraan; he also devoted himself more fully to the
    2-7  many community organizations he had supported over the years,
    2-8  including the United Methodist Church and the Iraan Archaeological
    2-9  Society; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, A past president of his local Lions Club, this
   2-11  exemplary citizen also served on the Iraan City Council and the
   2-12  Iraan Chamber of Commerce and was the secretary of the Permian
   2-13  Basin's Mental Health and Mental Retardation board of trustees; and
   2-14        WHEREAS, Despite these many community and professional
   2-15  endeavors, Mr. Stacy was above all else a devoted husband and
   2-16  father who enjoyed a happy and rewarding marriage with his wife
   2-17  Carlene and took great pride in his children and grandchildren; and
   2-18        WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know this outstanding
   2-19  Texan will not soon forget the kindness and commitment he brought
   2-20  to every facet of his life, and although his presence is gone from
   2-21  us now, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all
   2-22  those whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now,
   2-23  therefore, be it
   2-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-25  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Daniel Ray Stacy and
   2-26  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,
   2-27  Carlene Stacy of Iraan; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel
    3-1  and Lisa Stacy of Joplin, Missouri, and Cary and Annette Stacy of
    3-2  Midland; to his mother, Esther Stacy of Coleman; to his
    3-3  father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Peeples of Fort
    3-4  Stockton; to his sisters Beverly Dittmer of Grapevine and Karen
    3-5  Mitchell of Coleman; and to his many other relatives and friends;
    3-6  and, be it further
    3-7        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-8  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    3-9  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   3-10  Daniel Ray Stacy.
