                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of longtime Marfa resident Pat Godbold
    1-2  on May 9, 1994, at the age of 71, has brought great sadness to the
    1-3  many friends and relatives of this distinguished civic leader and
    1-4  to the entire community of Marfa; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born December 18, 1922, in Roswell, New Mexico,
    1-6  Mrs. Godbold moved to Marfa in 1954 and remained a resident of this
    1-7  charming West Texas town for the rest of her life; in addition to
    1-8  creating a warm and happy home for her family, she was known
    1-9  throughout her community for the invaluable work she performed in
   1-10  behalf of Marfa's cultural, civic, and charitable organizations;
   1-11  and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A devoted member of her community of faith at the
   1-13  First United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist
   1-14  Women, Mrs. Godbold was also a member of the American Red Cross,
   1-15  Western Federated Women's Club, Century Culture Club, Girl Scouts
   1-16  of America, and Presidio County Child Welfare Board; for her
   1-17  outstanding community service she won the admiration and gratitude
   1-18  of the residents of Marfa as well as a 1985 award designating her
   1-19  the city's most valuable volunteer; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Mrs. Godbold was also known for her work with museum
   1-21  and library associations; a member of the Friends of the Marfa
   1-22  Public Library, she served for many years as the curator of the
   1-23  Marfa and Presidio County Museum and wrote a column called "Museum
   1-24  Musings" that appeared regularly in the Big Bend Sentinel
    2-1  newspaper; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know this truly
    2-3  extraordinary Texan will not soon forget the generosity,
    2-4  compassion, and selflessness she displayed, nor will they forget
    2-5  the joy and enthusiasm she brought to every facet of her life;
    2-6  although her presence is gone from us now, her legacy will live on
    2-7  in Marfa's civic and cultural community for future generations of
    2-8  Texans and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those whose
    2-9  lives she touched during her years on this earth; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Pat Godbold and
   2-13  extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family:  to her
   2-14  husband, Roy H. "Happy" Godbold of Marfa; to her sons, Carlton
   2-15  Godbold of Lubbock and Paul Godbold of El Paso; to her daughters,
   2-16  Janet Lancaster of San Angelo, Patti Godbold of Lubbock, and Susan
   2-17  Nelson of Bridgeton, Missouri; to her brothers, Gilbert Dollahon of
   2-18  Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Paul Dollahon of Roswell, New Mexico; to
   2-19  her sisters, Audrey Fletcher of Roswell, New Mexico, and Ann Becker
   2-20  of Summerland Key, Florida; to her six grandchildren; and to her
   2-21  many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
   2-22        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-23  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
   2-24  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-25  Pat Godbold.
